The ice house was suppose to have been as you went over the hill road and turned right. It was the third house to your left,I think. Yes, there are survivors and I was one of them.I think we lived there for about 8yrs.I know we moved to East Columbus when I was about 12.My Father died when I was 5, and my Mother was left with 4 kids,no money and had to live there. Idon't know who would know this, but as I have passed the Mill Race Park where the new storm sewer is going in, I wonder if that will hurt the tree that was planted by Sylvia Wells and dedicated by the city. I do hope that it is bypassed. Bob Lane

I checked for sure and the tree is safe but the project came awfully close to it so I hope the root system is intact. I would urge you all to email Parks and Rec and let them know that we are concerned about preserving the tree. Nick Rush at Parks and Rec has always taken a personal interest in looking out for it:

The following from 1959, is in the Looking Back feature in today’s edition of The Republic newspaper.
Buryl McFadden, owner of the property known as Death Valley, reported that two houses in the complex had been demolished. Rent on the remaining eight houses in the area range from $10.00 to $12.00 per month. The area is west of the railroad tracks.

Friends, I visited Mill Race park this weekend, and stopped to see the memory plate by Siliva's tree. To my shock I found the marbalized plate broken all the way across the width. Didn't appear to be vandalism but not sure. That hasn't been in place all that long. Whoever is in charge of that maintainance maybe could check it out, see if any guarantee exists. Shame to see this falling apart so quickly. Bob Lane
