Boy Babs, ain't that true? I think they're basically using the same old excuses they used to justify the tearing down of Central.
Once this building is demolished, there will be no more elementary schools left that I went to.
I'm just glad that we have a pretty good record of State Street going here in this Thread.

Haven't posted much, but the thoughts about State Street School pushed me into action. I went to State Street grades 1-6, transferring to Wilson my 7th grade year. I loved State Street. Ben Walker was principal and his daughter, Anita, was in our same class. I remember playing b'ball with Harry Breeden. I remember going to the cafeteria and watching LIVE on TV the inauguaration of President Eisenhower in 1952. What a treat. I also remember playing softball (baseball? not sure). I was lucky enough to hit a homerun to win a game. I was so full of myself my "girlfriend", Sandy Corbin, got mad and wouldn't let me ride her home on our bikes after the game. ...HUGE mistake on my part. Mrs. Bottorff made Rita Haywood and me stand on top of our desks in 1st grade for talking. Mrs. Fulp in 4th grade was so special. Mr. Breeden in 5th and Mr. Freese in 6th. Ed (Eddie) Poole

Hi Eddie,
This is Bob... and gee I am sure glad Jack Hinkle got one of the 47 friends to post here on the history boards. Great post by the way and I enjoyed parts of your past that I wasn't aware of. For the folks reading this; Eddie and I go back to the grade school days at different schools of course, but did play basketball against each other. Then finished high school together at CHS.
I mentioned in my last post in summary about the Columbus Historical Message Boards. One part I referred to groups of former friends and classmates finding each other and emailing today. Well, Eddie and myself are part of that one group of 47 past friends of almost 55 years ago, or so. Now, folks there is nothing like making old friends and classmate connections again, and you can do it on these boards. Just brush up on you memories of Columbus days of the past and put them to word.
Thanks Eddie and a big welcome to the posting arena. I told Jack in an email today that there is so much history in the 8600 posts, that it might take a week to read them all. However, after you read them you will know more about Columbus and Bartholomew County than you ever had known as a younger person.
I definitely know more about Columbus History today, than when I was a teenage kid. __________________

David and Joy,I believe that the unknown in the first photo, between James K. Dickey and Orville Snyder, is my older brother, Jack Foist. I am going to show this to him when I see him and try to confirm this.
