Regarding the window paintings we did downtown, I was part of that in maybe 1951. While it wasn't a Michelangelo quality it stood out as one of my great events.(ha) Bob Lane

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE! Hope you are having a truly wonderful day and that Santa was good to you. Also, as Nanc said for Thanksgiving, be sure and count your blessings. We are blessed to live in this wonderful country and yet sometimes we take it for granted. I pray God will continue to bless the United States and that He will guide and protect our men and women who are overseas (and those here at home as well). Have a great holiday!

Mom, I Got To Tell You This True Story For 2009 Night before last I was in Bob’s back yard with 6 other family members near the brick sidewalk. We had just finished eating Bob’s acorns lying on the ground under the southern live oak trees. We all were looking up to the second floor of Bob’s house, and noticed a television was playing the late, late, late television shows. I don’t know who those comics are on the late show now that Leno is gone, but we all sure enjoyed the Christmas commercials, I guess. We were all relaxed and some were eating Bob’s wifes flowers that had not frozen yet, for an after snack. Then, all of a sudden this large framed man (I suppose Bob) stood near one of the windows and looked at us in the eyes. Gee, Mom that spooked us a little and we started moving back to the acorns to feast for our last treat of the night. I think I heard Bob say to his wife, “wake-up you are missing some of Santa’s deer.” Well, when she got up from the bed we were out of view. You know what Mom? I really like Bob and his family, because they never try to really scare us or even shoot those guns at us, plus they let us eat all of their acorns every year. Well, Mom I guess we better get going, because Christmas is only two days away and Santa may call on us. ________________ Comment: This is a true event on the 23rd of December 2009 in our yard here on the East Coast. When I got up from the bed to look outside at 1:00 am I counted 7 deer, without any snow of course. We have security lights that surround the outside of the house, so we can see everything 50 feet out. The lights are on every night and it seems to attract the deer. The part about the deer in the backyard is a true event, however the deer talk is for your humor bones. The picture was from the Drudge Report this morning. Merry Christmas to all the members and readers of the boards.

To one and all------------ MERRY CHRISTMAS, 2009........... Awoke this morning to a 'brisk' Southern California day, sunny and bright, with a view of the snow on mountains from a nearby hill top in one direction and the buildings in downtown LA, some 25 miles distant, as clear as a bell, in the other.............Surely some of God's handiwork. It need not be, a 'special season' to be thankful for our many blessings-------------spread your love to family, friends, our troops, and the many who are perhaps suffering right now. Listen to the Christmas music, and reflect on all the good things in your life and say a prayer of joy. AND be proud to be an American.........God bless you, one and all............ MERRY CHRISTMASLove 'n hugs, Nanc

Since 1776 "Independence Day" July 4, 2011 -Celebrate your Freedoms (235 years later this Monday),
-Commonly known as the Fourth of July, and is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence and freedoms.-During 1874 (98 years later) one of the oldest buildings is Columbus Indiana was finished. It was the Bartholomew County Court House. The last picture in this post is probably the oldest known dated picture in the 1800s thread herein. The picture was dated by our members based on the absence of the clock, some missing windows, and completion date of the structure.

President's Day & MeaningUnited States of America What Is The Meaning Of President's Day? (It may not be what you think) Bliss Martin says it best: Quote: " President's Day is meant to be a day of recognition. Although, this can be easily forgotten due to all of the advertisements of "President's Day sales". President's Day has become very commercial and businesses make alot of money on this day, but the true meaning of President's Day is to honor all of the American presidents, most significantly George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. George Washington was born on February 22, 1732. When Abraham Lincoln became president and helped reshape our country, it was believed he too should have a special day of recognition. Throughout the 19th century, George Washington was the towering figure of U.S. history to the American public. In honor of the man who commanded the Continental Army and led the American colonies to victory in the Revolutionary war, served as first president of the United States of America, and earned the title"The Father of our country." Washington's birthday is now celebrated on the third monday of February each year. Advocates in the 1960s wanted to honor both Washington and president Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is February 12 on a single federal holiday. Lincoln is known for his civil war presidency during which he freed the slaves, but saw the nation break apart and begin the Civil war. His famous Gettysburg Address is considered one of the greatest speeches of all time. Contrary to popular belief, Washington's birthday has never been officially changed to President's Day." Downtown Christmastime belonged to The Greeks soda fountain in the 1950's, early 60's. The back room had a cotton ceiling, adorned with lights (blue as I recall). Holiday music played and the room was really magical ! A gom sandwich and cherry coke was a must for me. Larry Wright
