I have DSL, so not using a dial up connection, but although I can click and read each particular category, I am unable to get the last 50 posts. Just seemed unusual to me and I thought maybe it was my Earthlink (which I do hate with a passion, let me tell you...always something going wrong with it). In the past, I've had no problems but just lately. I can get the pictures, so don't think it has anything to do with you posting them Bob. No idea; I'm clueless. I will try again and let you know. Thanks.
Again, sorry, I guess I posted this question in the wrong place; it should've been in message board changes!

I have added a new item to the Historic Columbus Indiana website. In December 1965, The Architectural Forum magazine had a 10 page article regarding Columbus Indiana and its architecture. This article is very interesting and has some wonderful pictures. Remember what it used to look like when driving in to Columbus via the 3rd Street bridge? Well, there's a shot of exactly THAT contained in the article. I hope you enjoy the reading (and pictures), AND, a couple of the pictures in this article just might help you identify some of the businesses for the 1965 Map Contest! Here's the link to the article: www.historiccolumbusindiana.org/forum/cover.asp

It ABSOLUTELY amazes me to see the picture of the North Christian Church in the Architectural Forum article I just posted.
Hardly anything surrounds it! Amazing what 42 years will do...

Dear Folks, I'm not sure where to post this, so here goes. I recently received a postcard in the mail. From Bull Dog Alumni Association, Directory office, PO Box 3110, Chesapeake, VA, 23327-3110. They are indicating they will be publishing a " Columbus and Columbus North" Alumni Directory. They want info about me for that purpose. Does anyone have any info of this? Is it legit or a scam? I'd like some responce from the regulars about this. Thanks. Bob Lane
* Thanks for the input. That confirms the feeling I had. Something like that ought to go through the school staff to get permission to gather info. You are great to answer so quickly. Bob

Hi Bob and I too received one . I don't feel comfortable with the card, with the address and what you have also thought about. I will not be answering such correspondence, but that doesn't mean that others should do what I do. It may be a money making situation for someone, not sure.
Response from 3 other grads said along these lines:
(1) "I too got one of the cards and my response will be no response, sounds like a good way to have your personal information put at risk."
(2) "It will cost you $70 to $90 if you participate and want a copy of a directory that will take a year to publish. Hey, who cares about me at this stage of life? Didn't go to North anyway. The directory will start with the 1950 Class. Bill Stearman and those before are not to be included."
(3) "No way!"

I received the exact same thing, first one mailing, and then actually a second one----------the REAL KICKER, I didn't even graduate from high school in Indiana. So really makes me wonder where info is being gathered to send out these mailings. The only place that I am 'listed' in Columbus Logs would be as a freshman and/or sophomore, and this info came via my maiden name which I do now use. BUT to my current address, and there are NO public records out there on the internet putting the two together. A puzzlement, for sure. And it wouldn't be coming via this website either. Hmmmmm. Nanc

Bob Yesterday as some of the above was questioned by a few of us via email, I discovered the following link, which does rather 'explain' it all: cnhs.bcsc.k12.in.us/BullDogAlumniPageUpdate.htmUp across the top of this link you have several options to view. Check out 'HISTORY,' as it does have some good photos from the past. Some of which have already been posted on this website. IF you are a 'Tony Stewart' fan, check out the 80s. Might add, IF you have unanswered questions about this upcoming publication, use the 'contact us' section, and ask. I got a prompt response to my question, and on a Sunday evening at that. I did appreciate that quick response. Check it out. And make your own decision as to if you wish to participate in this upcoming publication. Nanc

This Is Our Final Posting On The Bull Dog Alumni Association Letters and Cards Mailed To Graduates of Columbus High School or North Columbus High SchoolYou the reader, can make up you own mind about this subject and we don't want to influence anyone by the postings that have discussed the subject. After, many hours of research by several folks we found Mr. John W. Green name on the letter or card sent out to former graduates. The North Columbus High School has a web site which I will post below for review on the Bull Dog Alumni Association information. If you have further questions about this subject; then I have posted his name, position, phone number and email address in case you want to correspond about the topic. Go Here for the high school web site:cnhs.bcsc.k12.in.us/BullDogAlumniPageUpdate.htmAnd Here: cnhs.bcsc.k12.in.us/Head of Project:John W. I Think It Is Disgusting That Columbus North High School Is Involved With This Thing
I made a very hard and clear effort to not have my name in their book, as Richard and Nanc recalls. I told them things they probably didn't want to hear, but that was my choice. Bob Lane started the post about this subject, then Nanc and I jumped in. Then I posted something about "This is The Last Post Concerning This Subject". Maybe the Bartholomew County School Officials should check on the transactions.
Additionally, my brother said "watch out" they are after $70 to $90 dollars and they may not even print a book for over a year. As I said before: "Why would I want to buy a book that has my name in it at this stage of life" and who really cares what I did in life after CHS. All my accomplishments are know by my immediate family and close friends and no one else should care.
Sorry Jack to learn of your book problems and the school should investigate what is going on. ____________________________________________________________ For those that don't understand what we are talking about go to this post and others around it: Re: What's New On The Website « Reply #47 on Oct 22, 2007, 8:22am »

"This Is Our Final Posting On The Bull Dog Alumni Association Letters and Cards Mailed To Graduates of Columbus High School or North Columbus High School" Hmmmm, and I thought that 'we,' at least Bob and I, had this all taken care of here some time back for ourselves. But just within the last couple of weeks, I got yet another----'last chance, final notice' card in the mail. BUT, as we 'investigated' this whole issue back then, I will say that if you go the Columbus North website, and look under 'History/Photos' there is some interesting 'stuff' there. www.bcsc.k12.in.us/northhs/cnhs%20history/cnhs%20history%201.htmlAnd 'free' just by clicking!!!!!!!!!! ;D Nanc

Well, Nanc even after I had to email a certain party many times and called the Virginia company (doing this book) I got another card also a few weeks ago. I filed it most appropriately in file 13, or may I say trash.

28 Percent Of StatesRichard and I have been talking about membership or reader locations tonight. We both think this might be close to what we have seen over the past year in posters and readers. Keep in mind many read and we don't know from what state, name or locations. I doubt if we have all the locations that are reading and posting on the Columbus Historical Boards. Here is our best guess at this point: From: California, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Kansas, Georgia, Minnesota, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, Canada, Italy and any others you can add. Cities In Indiana: Many at least in double figures Summary: 14 States and 2 Countries Comment: Seems to be building by word of mouth and engine searching by people spread throughout the USA. Of course many don't join I suppose and only read. I remember when I discovered the boards I started telling relatives and friends in different locations and states. Some of those folks read and don’t post, but do email me at times about a certain subject or historical information. When I joined in December 2004 there were only a handful of folks, reading and posting on the boards. Today, it is not uncommon to see 25-30 people on at the same time. I have even seen 70 and 90 within the last year. It has grown much over the last 3 years. There are a lot of experiences and history still not presented, but it would be helpful and more interesting if more put their thoughts to the print herein. I suspect the boards will continue to grow, and more experiences and history will be written. Enjoy all and tell your friends and family in other cities and states. Columbus and Bartholomew County life and experiences are a “lifetime of enjoyment” no matter what age and location. Figures Above Updated Last: February 21, 2008

Figures Above Updated Last: February 21, 2008 Having been on vacation for over two weeks, was attempting to catch up on 'reading the message boards,' and found Bob's post, as above. As we were leaving Miami this past Monday, for the plane ride home, met some folks en route to Cuba on what I believe to be, a missionary type trip. We briefly chatted as we waited for the shuttle to take us to the airport. Seems that they are now FL residents, but had grown up in Kokomo, IN, and were very familiar with Columbus. And love the area. As the conversation continued on the drive to the airport, I found myself quickly digging in my purse for a Historic Columbus website business card, as these folks were interested in our on going efforts to preserve history here on the message boards. I sincerely hope that these folks 'drop by for a 'look-see,' and to them I say----------WELCOME. And as always, my sincere WELCOME to one and all. Join the fun. Nanc

I keep seeing post's by "jdhinkle" and got to wondering about this. jdhinkle, did you have some kin back in the 50ths that had a pawn shop on Washington Street, maybe around the 600 block? I bought a curved top guitar from him. It was a good instrument. Just wondering. Bob Lane
