Altho' I put this into 'Floods of 2008,' it really also belongs as a post for Tony Stewart. Therefore, I do a 'repeat post' as Tony Stewart does deserve some credit here. As do all the many Columbus people----------that are helping others. My hat is off to all of you. God bless. And yes, already this AM, I had an email and the article from a friend in Columbus, telling of Tony Stewart's efforts and contributions to help Columbus during this disaster time. Had no sooner read that, and since NASCAR racing is on the TV in this household-------------------the commentator made quite a huge deal of Tony's humanitarian efforts for Columbus and its residents.
Makes me proud. And YOU GO, TONY, YOU GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I do proudly fly a Tony Stewart # 20 orange banner in front of my house, as well as a picture banner.
Keeping all in my thoughts and prayers.
Nanc et al----------------Your California fans This is a link to a good article about Tony Stewart and his reaction and assistance offered to Columbus folks. www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=423148

This information is from the local paper, The Republic in today’s edition. Tony Stewart’s portion of the $136.986 pay for his fifth finish in Sunday’s NASCAR race at Michigan will go to the American Red Cross for flood relief in his hometown of Columbus, Indiana. ‘I’m happy we got a top five for everyone in Columbus and that we can do something to help our community out,” Stewart said after the race. “It’s been on my mind all weekend. That’s what this top five is for,” he said. “When it’s your own community and your own neighbors, it’s good to generate a good amount of winning for them.” Stewart’s share of the fifth-place winnings was almost $55,000.

FYI - Tony's Dad was an Auto Shop Teacher at Columbus High School in the early '70s... Ring any bells???
As I recall he was burned pretty badly saving a man from a burning car....

Well it has been a great week for Tony. He is now 50/50 owner of a NASCAR racing team. It will be called Stewart-Haas racing. If any one can take a team and turn it around it would be Tony. In the next few days there will be much written about the new team. Mean while he will finish out the year in #20 for Gibbs Racing. GO Tony.

In trying to read between the lines on the new team I do believe Tony will be driving before the year is out. Here is what I think will happen. If Tony does not have a chance at the top five points in the championship then Joe Gibbs will let him go to his new team and he will put in a driver or drivers to look them over for next year. This only makes sense as a business decision on Gibbs part. Also it gives Tony a chance to start lining up everything he needs for next season. I can't wait ( but I will) for next year. It looks like Ryan Newman will also join Tony as the second driver for Stewart-Haas. GO TONY

And seriously, doesn't it make one proud to be able to say that Tony Stewart is from Columbus, Indiana? In this Southern California household, I have to giggle just a tad, as my other half has become quite a 'Tony fan' and is probably more 'involved' than 'hometowners' are. As I type, he is watching whatever is going on for this weekend's Indy event. And bless Richard, as he sends me just all kinds of Tony info. Thanks, Richard. Heaven forbid, if we lived in town!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are just the So. California fans, complete with a 'Tony banner' flying out in front. Gotta find the new stuff here soon. LOVE IT. Go Tony, Go------------------ Nanc ;-)

Tony Stewart is pictured on the cover of Parade (the newspaper supplement for 8/24/08. He is also is featured in an article in Rolling Stone magazine (issue 1060 - 9/4/08). The article is positive but plays up his bad boy/rock star image. It also talks about his growing up and still living in Columbus. There is great a picture in the magazine showing him walking away from his crashed car carrying his helmet and steering wheel. Some boyhood racing pictures

Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway history will be made as Tony Stewart drives his final race for Joe Gibbs Racing. The feeling expressed in today's Republic likened the split to "being like a divorce". I'm sure there are many mixed feelings. Beginning now Tony will be driver/owner of Stewart-Haas Racing and a new chapter begins in his racing career. All of his loyal fans wish only the best for Tony as he begins this new venture. Way to go Tony!!!

Nanc you are right on a great win for Tony on the 4th of July. We watched it and the car wrecks on the last lap involving Tony were more than any other fireworks you could have attended. At no fault of Tony the last lap event was something to watch.
Congrats, to Tony from the East Coast as well.
