SMOKE 'smoked 'em' at Watkins Glen in the Monday race. Way to go, Tony.We had to leave during the race, with the TV recording the action, and we got home just in time to see that Tony had won, then watched the 'recorded race.' Nanc

September 9, 2009------------the June 2009, rained out, Prelude to a Dream race became a reality this evening.........at Eldora. The proceeds of this race go to our wounded troops and their families----four charities were included--------- makes one mighty proud to be a NASCAR fan!Our Columbus, Tony Stewart, as one of the announcers said tonight------------ is in a League of His Own. If you didn't see the race this evening----------the interviews prior to the main event were awesome---------these drivers truly showed their RED, WHITE, and BLUE support of our troops, as well as their families. Hats off to the winner, yes, Tony Stewart did it again. Quite a driver, a driver/owner, and a person that supports such worthy charitable events. As well as a tip of the hat to all the participating drivers, the crews, and the sponsors, and the fans.God Bless America and our troops that keep our great nation free. Nanc

We are in California but won't be making the race today. Sure hope Nanc will bring Tony Stewart good luck being a local hometown girl, rooting for him. We are ready to take off on our seven day cruise but will still be sending out good vibes to Tony and wishing him all the luck in the world today. :-)
GOOD LUCK TONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My account of the NASCAR race in California. WHEW, it is a couple of days after two days of racing, as spectators, at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA-----Oct. 10/11, 2009 Let's begin by saying----------by Sunday evening we were exhausted, having gotten an early start each day to make sure we had good parking, and avoided any traffic jams en route. The Saturday Nationwide race was good, with a lot of action. Plus I had the time to make some 'Tony Stewart' purchases from Fan Zone area. Seems that each driver has a big trailer pulled by a semi, I presume, set up with all kinds of 'fan items.' With Sunday being the big race, I 'demanded' that we get up at 2:30 AM, so that feeding chores were done, the car packed, and we were out the door before 4:00 AM, with parking lots opening at 5:00 AM. Mission accomplished, and we were able to get a great parking spot----------------Watching the race is great, BUT 'people watching til race time,' well, that is an experience.................It was a really cool fall morning in Southern California, and at times it was almost, not quite, California liquid sunshine. Didn't stop the fans from donning their favorite driver's sportswear, hats, shirts, jackets, you name it, and thinking that it was a hot summer day------------dressed in shorts, like gals in 'short shorts,' and they had to be COLD! Now, for the tailgating parties going on-------------we weren't doing that, having just brought two lunch pails with our snacks and sandwiches duly packed, bearing in mind that there are 'fierce restrictions' on what you can bring in with you to the 'fan and grandstand' area. Across from us------------a group of four guys starting to set up for 'their party.' Two EZ ups, one with a Dale, Jr. theme, numerous chairs, a couple of tables------------and a bar-b-q on the trailer hitch of their pick-up----------ah, yes, # 88 on the bar-b-q cover AND the truck. AND here we sat, in the warmth of our car----------watching------------and to look at our vehicle---------NOone would know we were Tony Stewart fans, unless you saw our 'pit crew caps' on the dash board. We had on 'Tony T-shirts,' but was too cold, so we had just regular sweat shirts over them----------who would have thought it would be this chilly, it wasn't the day before! So the minute the 'Fan Zone' opened at 7:00 AM, I made my way directly to the 'Tony sales and display,' to make some kind of purchase to identify us more clearly as to being 'Tony fans.' I settled for four # 14 flags to 'roll up in the windows.' And I wasn't the only one in line that early to make purchases!!!!!! (And good that I had done 'early shopping,' as closer to race time the lines were up to ten deep.) Then the fun began------------discovered you really need to be 'identified' as to who you are 'rooting for,' and almost immediately after I got the flags on the car----------------started talking with other 'Tony fans,' as well as fans of other drivers. Will admit that was a lot of fun. Talked to several folks who had had 'close chances' the day before to get Tony's autograph. Perhaps my biggest disappointment, when one looks at the 'public appearance schedules' of nearly all the drivers, California doesn't get many, if any, public appearances at sponsoring businesses, most all of them are on the east coast, where so many of the NASCAR races seem to be held...................And California does have a huge 'fan base,' evidence the crowds, and them displaying their favorite driver in clothing attire, decorating their vehicles, etc. We really enjoyed Sunday's race------------it was exciting, even tho' Tony did not make it to Victory Lane, it was a thrill to see him work his way up through the 'pack,' more than once, and finish in a position to keep him in The Chase standings. Amazes me, just who will 'turn up' as a Tony fan.............even the receptionist at my doctor's office.....as a friend of hers is somehow connected with Gene Haas.................at the mention of the NASCAR race of this weekend------------the only driver she mentioned was 'our Tony.' It was a great weekend. Nanc

Sounds like you had a blast at the two races, Nanc! So glad you got to attend and from your description I could almost hear the sound of those cars racing around that track. Have to admit I'm not a big NASCAR fan but our daughter, son-in-law and grandson are HUGE fans! They attend a lot of races whenever they get the chance and have a ton of pictures taken with quite a few of the drivers. Have to admit Tony is not their favorite but he is my favorite, being a true hometown hero! Austin, our grandson is a big Jeff Gordon fan, Laura, our daughter likes Jimmie Johnson and Kirk just likes racing period. Maybe one day we will attend. Don has attended many of the races in Daytona when we lived in the Orlando area but I never went. From your description, seeing all the fans would be a blast. Glad you had such a fun experience and thanks for sharing it with all of us. We are back from our Mexican cruise and will be on our way home just a few days short of two weeks from now. It has been wonderful weather and I'm hearing "frost" in Indiana? I may just not come home!!!!

Kudos of the first order to Tony's pit crew------awesome. Loved the clean shaven look, do ya' think 'less wind resistance?' And in closing--------keep 'Eric from Indy' in our thoughts and prayers. Nanc ;-)

Good luck in the Chase, Tony, your fans are rooting for ya'! Here's to a big win in California in October and all the races before and after!!!!! I'll be cheering for #14 from the top of the grandstand in turn four at the AutoClub Speedway in Fontana. You go Smoke, and all of the Office Depot/Old Spice team! Nanc

It has been a LLLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGGG day, this October 7, 2010-------------- and oh, so much fun.............So it seems, very, very seldom do many of the NASCAR drivers do public appearances at the businesses of their sponsors on the West Coast...............I always check when there is a NASCAR race at Fontana. AND come up with a 'nothing.' To do a 'meet and greet' at the AutoClub Speedway on race weekend, is like a circus, and more than I am willing to battle......... Talk about thrilled-----------I did my usual 'check' and Tony, as in Stewart, was scheduled to do an autograph session at the Office Depot some 30 miles from where I live. Did some verifying, and knew we had to be in the 'wristband line' by the time the Office Depot in Rancho Cucamonga (sp) which is near the Speedway, opened at 8 AM. Fed my horse in the dark and were on the road by 5 AM, with my iced mocha, and thankfully I had not yet dressed in 'Tony attire' as I promptly spilled it due to a cracked lid. ;-( But I did laugh. We arrived and were first in line, and shortly thereafter the 'wristband line' grew and grew. Fun to talk to other Tony fans. Got the required wristband, and headed home to 'actually get ready.' Loaded 'em up, and headed 'em out----donned in our 'Tony finest' -------and got back to Office Depot about noon, following the Stewart-Haas car trailer into the parking lot. Upon our return we were in the first 30 in line. I must say here, that the Office Depot was very well organized for this event. It was a long wait til a bit after 4 PM when we were escorted in to meet Tony and get his autograph---------------now I fussed and fumed as I didn't know just what one item I would have him sign-------would it be my Tony jacket, my model # 14 car, OR my Columbus, Indiana cap, or my Old Spice cap----------------- I opted for my Columbus cap-----thinking that might generate a least a tad of conversation, and in the big picture be what I would enjoy the most--------------! Good choice, as I did get a big smile and a few words exchanged. YEA. Everett had him sign his 'Smoke' Car Hauler.' It has been one fun day......definitely a day to remember...........now tomorrow I need to get organized for Saturday and Sunday at the RACES. A Tony win, well, that would make our day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Tony Go
In Fontana, CA, In October 2010 Nanc ;-)

TONY WINS IN CALIFORNIA WOW, SUPER WOW! It was worth getting up at 2:00 AM, to get to the Speedway in time to get our 'favorite' parking place. Yes, we are tired, but who cares? ?? Other than we had beastly hot SoCal weather these past two days, the race today was WONDERFUL. From our seats we could see Tony's pit spot close enough to see how great was the pit crew. Super teamwork! It was a SUPER GREAT DAY to be able to say you were at the race in California, the day that TONY WON IT. WAY TO GO, TONY (And thanks for signing my Columbus hat on Thursday, all in the same week as a California win.) Nanc

Daytona 500, February 20, 2011 Well, another bout of 'holding one's breath,'..................AND IF Tony wasn't able to come in FIRST-------- -------It was a thrill to have TREVOR BAYNE win BIG!!!!! Just a kid, turned 20 yesterday, has driven so well all this weekend. NASCAR is truly a thrill a minute, right up to the final lap, and crossing that finish line. Here's to the next weekend of racing!!!! Nanc

Well, not a win today. March 6, 2011, in Vegas, but a good race---------with the number of laps that Tony led------------even a finish at 2nd will work......... Way to go, Tony!!!!!!!!! Points should work out pretty good, I think. Not sure just where the next couple of race weekends are held, being as how I am knee deep into making a jaunt to Columbus in a little over a week, just know 'it is Fontana, CA the end of March.' And hoping for a repeat win there!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nanc

In a way, I would much rather be sitting here commenting about a ‘Tony Win for Grandpa at the Brickyard 400, 2011.’ That didn’t happen----------and altho’ the TV hasn’t yet officially disclosed the Chase standings, think that ‘Tony finishing in 6th place’ keeps him in the Chase. (Just verified, yes, Tony is in the top 10, way to go. That’ll work!!!!!!!!!!!! For all you mid-Western NASCAR fans, you probably have long ago put ‘two and two together and come up with the explanation equaling four.’ Having made trips back to Columbus numerous times in the past few years------------hey, I know what ‘Menards’ is, where it is located in Columbus……..I pay attention to my surroundings. And while on that subject----------wish I had a Marsh’s to shop in out here!!!!!!!!!! Best I can do on that is to take in my Marsh’s recycle bags into my market, generates some interesting conversations. But until today, I was just a tad slow on the up-take. I literally sat here watching this Brickyard 400 race, with Paul Menard being the winner, and them showing his proud father-----------you get the picture. AND in a car sponsored by Menards. Then I began checking the internet, read about Menards, the home improvement business, and then seeking info about Paul Menard, the NASCAR driver. Now I ‘get it.’ Guess I have lived in California for so long that I just haven’t much been in the know. Just for the record-------an internet search about Paul Menard, in Wikipedia, well, somebody is really ‘quicker than greased lightning’ as they have added this July 31, 2011, Brickyard win to his bio, and he was still in Victory Lane when I was checking!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I cheered for a Tony win for Grandpa, and enjoyed Trevor Bayne’s showing today. It was a good race. Cheers to all from So. Cal which is ‘experiencing mid-West weather today,’ as it has rained, even with some lightning, fairly hot and the humidity is high, as in ‘Back Home in Indiana.’ Nanc, let’s make that ‘Naïve Nanc’

Ah, am thinking I need something more portable than my laptop, as I am really tardy in 'cheering Tony on,' as is my normal MO. A rained out race, put it onto a day/Monday/9-19-11, that was already 'obligated' as an 'away from home day,' translated, NO computer access. But we watched the race at my daughter's house, as I 'doggie sat,' (long story) and a Tony win made the day. Way to go, Tony! And let's add in that Ryan Newman is doing mighty well, too. How 'bout a 1 - 2 Chase win for Stewart/Haas-----that would be classic!!!! My other half's daughter has spent this week in NC at a conference with 'featured guests,' I hope I get this one right----Junior Johnson, and Richard Petty------------now she is not a NASCAR fan as such------------but sure got some great pictures of herself with these racing icons to share with her dad......... So has been a exciting NASCAR week in this household. GO TONY!Nanc

Pitty pat, pitty pat went my heart those last couple of laps today, Oct. 30, 2011 at Martinsville----------with OUR TONY COMING OUT THE WINNER!
AWESOME! Time out to listen to Tony's account of this win! (And I missed the last couple of races as I was out of town, with no TV access. ;-( Today makes up for that, for sure.
DETERMINATION~~Way to go, Tony!
Three wins so far, and only 8 points out---------GO FOR THE GOLD!
We are rooting for ya'!
Nanc ;-)
