The Miscellaneous Columbus Indiana Topics Thread is one of the last remaining threads from the original message board before I reorganized things here last year.
A couple of things here: the date of my first post in the thread is July 1, 2004. This date is awful close to the creation date of this message board. Before this board, I made an attempt at two other message boards with other internet providers.
The earliest I didn't like and the other went belly up.
When I originally set up the Historic Columbus Indiana website way back in 2001, I asked for people to write me with their memories about Columbus, and you can still find their comments on the old Angelfire site. The link on that welcome page is still active if you care to read those comments.
The other thing is, I am not going to move any posts from this thread.
The other thread that still remains pre-changes is the Columbus Indiana Hash thread. This thread was intended as kind of a "catch-all" thread for discussions about non-Columbus stuff. I'm not going to move any of these posts either.
Now, while we have a "Non-Columbus" board on the main page, I will most likely lock the Columbus Indiana Hash thread so that no more posts can be made to it. It will be available for reading, but that's it.
I really don't want to move any of these posts, and I don't want you guys to have to do it either, so let's read the posts here, and remember the "good ole days" when the Message Board was still new...
HA!

I visited the Garlan Brook Cemetery yesterday and was impressed again at how Columbus folks keep up this site, new flowers and flags. So we keep our departed family and friends alive through these memories. Bob Lane

Wow. It's hard to believe that this Message Board turned 5 years old around the beginning of July!
And what wonderful additions we've had to it since then. George with all his postcards...Bob with his historical posts about life in the 1800's...Jack for all his insight into life in Columbus...nanc and all of her wonderful stories...and Richard (I can't thank Richard enough!) for his dedication and involvement with the Message Board (I think I'll name Richard the Administrator and me a helper)...and all those great pictures from the Time/Life archives.
I wish I would have caught this "birthday" earlier, but many many thanks to everyone who have contributed in making this Message Board truly one of a kind. Because of all of your comments, our public library realizes the importance of all the information herein, and made an attempt to back up the board in case all the information contained within was lost or wiped out. Sorry to say that didn't quite work out like we had hoped. But what it shows is a strong interest in preserving as many of our memories as we can while we're still alive.
I also want to thank ProBoards for offering this great free service.
There are still a lot of you lurkers out there who aren't speaking up. Your memories are very important here, whether they be of a historical nature, or a nostalgic one. Please don't be shy. This (hopefully) will be a permanent record of people, places and life in Columbus Indiana. No comment is too trivial.
I can only wonder what wonderful additions the future holds!
