This postcard depicting the first 8th street bridge brings back a lot of memories, as a youth I fished the Flat Rock river a lot and many times noticed a old bridge abutment just a little south of the present 8th steet bridge, little did I know it was the east bank abutment to this bridge. Parts of the abutment remain today.

By any chance, did anyone copy that Granny Davis postcard we discussed a couple of years back? I know I copied it, but I'm afraid it might have been on my computer, which I had to reformat 3 times earlier this year. I'm searching through my external hard drive and can't find it.
If you have a copy, could you please post it here?
Thank you!

I have a question. What was the purpose of the part that looks like a ladder? I'm assuming the end part dropped down and allowed workers to climb up on top of the bridge, then work their way along the top. It was great seeing you at the Historic Columbus Day at the Library last weekend.

David - I am trying to get it into my head (which is primarily vacant) what the route was which the Interurban took as it left town going south. Do you have any maps? I know that the tracks came down the middle of Washington Street, that the "car barn" was located on the east side of Washington south of First Street, and that they made their way southeast to Mineral Springs and down to Azalia. How and where did they did they make their way from Washington Street to their bridge over Haw Creek? I've seen everything from (1) running east up the middle of Second Street, to (2) crossing the PRR tracks south of Washington Street and then turning east, to (3) one old "map" showing them running almost due south and out across some phantom "fill". Any help would be much appreciated. Read more: columbusin.proboards.com/conversation/9893#ixzz2wpoCNKOT
