Senior Cords/Skirts Memories For Upcoming Class Reunion 2008My, my can you believe it has been 50 years? Please, lets not think about the years.....just the positive memories.....Cheerblock members always tried to wear the painted Senior Cords to Friday night sports events.Senior Cords History: The Senior Cords skirts and men's pants started during the Classes of 1954-1955 and ended around 1969. The tradition was popular among many high schools throughout the state of Indiana. The tradition was that a Junior could only wear his or hers on the last day of their Junior year as the seniors were departing. Of course they wore them if they had them ready for that day.
The next year the tradition was to wear them on Fridays of each week, but many wore them daily. Some students refused to wash them much, but that is another story. The material referred to as "cords" was corduroy, which is a heavy ribbed fabric. The color utilized was light yellow. The tradition is no longer with the schools but was a different tradition that most enjoyed.

I have sent the following email to the Columbus North High School and the email address listed as the contact for this event:
I am a 1959 graduate of Columbus High School, now Columbus North High School. Recently I was going through some things I have kept throughout the years and came across two 45 RPM recordings. They were entitled, "C.H.S. Review", from 1958 and "1959 CHS Review".
I have recorded these using my stereo system and a laptop computer. I can make these available at no charge as MP3 files to the school or anyone else that might be interested.
It also occurs to me that this is the year that the 1958 graduating class of CHS would be holding their 50th anniversary reunion. If you know who is organizing this event, I would like to have their email address so I can offer the 1958 recording to them.
Incidentally, the records are in excellent condition and the resulting recordings are of good quality.
I was especially pleased to hear the band featured for a few of the segments because I was a member of the band, playing trumpet.
Thanks for any help you may have to offer.
Best Regards,
Dave Sublette Class of 1959, CHS

Jack,
Yup, that is me. I am a Wertz Memorial EUB kid and played in the band at CHS. I just now saw your posting. I will try to get your email from the profile and send the mp3 file to you. It is a 12Meg file! I hope you have a fast internet connection like cable or DSL.
Yes my name is John David and many of my teachers called me that. My grandmothers called me that. But everyone else called me Dave.
