So glad we now have a date and hours of the Celebration !! I would urge anyone interested in being a member of the Planning Committee to contact David, also. 812-373-9277. WE NEED YOUR HELP AND INPUT !! This is an all VOLUNTEER Committee, and the only requirement is to have a love of Columbus History. Due to health isssues, I will not be as active a participant this year. I will hope to make as many of the meetings as I can. Blessings as always, Margo

We had a meeting last night and our next one will be in two weeks (April 27th at 6:30 at Loesch's Heating and A/C building). If you are interested, please plan to attend. Just come on out and join in the fun.
We will be trying to get in touch with vendors from our last event but if you come to the site and are checking up on things and want to participate please contact either David or Richard. Everyone is welcome and we need a lot of displays to make this event memorable.
Our event is scheduled for June 27th, from 9 to 4 at Donner Park in the shelterhouse. So far we do know we will have the Stutz firetruck on display, walking tours of the city cemetery, diisplays by Jim Loesch , John Rondot, Norm and Betty Ryle and we sure hope many many more. Come on out, join in and if you have something made in Columbus or that has to do with Columbus history, you are most welcome.
Post a message on this board or contact numbers for David (373-0227) or Richard (372-3992).

I have an 1879 Indiana plat book. It's not in good condition but it is all there. Every county is in it with information from 1879. I wonder if any orginazation would be able to use it. I will give it to the Hist. Comm. or the library, Col. hist. Soc. Whoever can use it please let me know. If I can, I will be at the next meeting on 4/27 and can bring it then. Bob Lane

Yes Bob, Please do plan to attend. The address is 1332 11th Street, the Loesch's Heating and Air Conditioning building at 6:30 next Monday and bring the plat book. I'm sure there are a number of people who would love to see your book and some who would like to have it.
Also regarding the publicity for our June 27th event, we did not make The Zone today. No idea what happened, but I've emailed the lady I work through to inquire why our event was not listed. So far no reply from her but just to be sure perhaps I will send in another item for next week. I was told originally that they would run it each week till the event and then the "week of" they would give us more coverage in the weekly section of The Zone.

Don't forget our meeting tonight at Loesch's Heating and Air Condition on 11th Street, at 6:30. Hope to see you all there. Bring ideas on how we should set up the shelterhouse and any suggestions are most welcome.

We had a great meeting last night with several newcomers attending and we were so glad to have them join us. Plans were discussed by different members about what they would display and how to lay out the shelterhouse. Next meeting will be June 2, 2009 at Donner Park shelterhouse at 6:30 where we will try to decide exactly how to layout the tables and where to set each person's display. A count was made of the tables and there were I believe 32 inside the shelterhouse. Joy passed around her draft copy of the flyer we will have printed and discussion was held about any additions or deletions from it.
It's getting close so lots of planning on the part of each person who will show their collections. Lets all try to get the word out about our event to be held June 27th from 9 to 4 and see how many people we can get out to enjoy our collections.
Thanks to Jim and Tim Loesch for again allowing us to use their facility for our meetings. It's become quite a habit and one we shouldn't take lightly..so thought a public acknowledgement to them was appropriate.

We did manage to make the newspaper...pretty big time....today. Harry McCawley did a very nice job...top of page A6......and Brenda Showalter ....top of page A3!!! :-) Also in the Zone, we are along the left hand side of the inside page (as usual), but we also got a blurb in the middle of the page for this week's Calendar!! So ...count them....FOUR ITEMS all together! Now that should bring out some people to our event on Saturday! :-)
Hope to see tons of people milling about on Saturday, visiting, reading, watching, looking and just "breathing in" some of our small town's history. There will be a lot of things to take in and as Rhonda said "if only the weatherman would back down a bit on our temps", we should have a wonderful day.
See you all there and dress cool! These high 80's and low 90 degree days can do the strongest of us "in" very quickly.

I think our event today was a huge success. I hope all of you who brought out your collections, whether it was a private one or if you were there representing a particular organization, agree and will want to do it again next year.
The weather wasn't too terribly hot and I think everyone managed to stay reasonably cool and hydrated. There was plenty of cold water available and the snacks that Jim Loesch's granddaughter made and sold hit the spot.
Thanks to everyone....the HCI committee, all the exhibitors, including the Columbus Fire Department for the loan of their old fire truck, Delbert Rust for bringing up the Fehring Storm Buggy from Seymour and Jim Loesch for the Reeves car...and to each of you who perhaps just stumbled across our celebration today at Donner Park or if you made the trip to look at all the collections on purpose, we are very glad you joined us. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did putting the event on for the community.
We appreciate you taking the time to visit us for our Third Annual Historic Columbus Indiana Celebration.

There are lots of pictures of Columbus buildings, products and artifacts in the many threads of this message board. Someone will likely post pictures of this years event as well and I know there are pictures of the previous ones.
