I grew up in Columbus. My father's mother lived with us, and occasionally she would take a job as a housekeeper which sometimes also included caring for a child. For a short while she took care of Dana Essex, Sap's little daughter. I believe he was in the navy at the time, but not sure. When my brother and I and our families would go back to visit our parents, one of the things he always did was go get some of Sap's donuts and Carmichael's fish sandwiches (Carmel Carmichael was a cousin of our dad's). Two of the city's tastiest treats.

Below you will see a picture of the site the Sap’s Donut Mill stood. Dolly Madison closed the business a few years ago. This view is from the Central Avenue side. Kroger Company plans to build a SUPER STORE on this site.
