Boy, I'm starting to wonder if this winter is ever gonna end! Sheesh! I haven't been out much. I did get downtown just before Christmas. I wanted to check out Zaharako's and see how many of the old decorations they used to spruce up the place. It was always like walking into a winter wonderland during my youth. I didn't notice as many decorations as the Zaharako family put up, but the place looked nice.
Richard, thanks for posting the pictures of the work at the Commons. Bob Anderson set up a camera above Columbus Bar two years ago, and has had pictures taken every day since. I got to see a "Time Sweep" of the pictures last year. I told him once it's all finished, I wanted to add music to it. It's quite something to see, in movie form, how things have progressed.
I'll be so glad when things start warming up!

The following from 1960, is in the Looking Back feature in today’s edition of The Republic newspaper.
With the official deactivation of the 2466th Air Base Squadron, operation of Bakalar Air Base was turned over to civilian authorities.

Thank you for your comment on the quality picture/photo that accompanied the Chicago Tribune article. That is my photo. They called the Columbus Area Visitors Center to request the photo....and were supposed to credit me, but didn't.

Rhonda I went back to the article on goggle and couldn't find any credit to your name. That is a shame for the Chicago Tribune not to mention that it was your picture. It truly is a wonderful picture of the terrain, church and sky areas. I wish I could take pictures as nice as you do. I went back to the post herein and gave you credit for the picture.

From The Republic (11/1/2010):
Equally justified in their feelings of pride should be members of the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives that recently was recognized with a prestigious award from the Indiana Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
The local group was presented the 2010 Walter S. Blackburn Award in recognition of its commitment to collecting, documenting and preserving thousands of drawings, models, and documents associated with the city's internationally renowned collection of post World War II modern architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and civic art.
It is pleasing to see a local organization recognized at such a high level, but the real value of CIAA is in the inestimable treasure it has retained for this and future generations of Columbus residents.
Congratulations to all!

Did anyone see in the paper Saturday that the Gent house is up for sale? That's the lovely brick home on Franklin Street with the stained glass, oval windows, rope design around the front doors, etc., etc., etc. I'm calling it the Gent house because it was built for the owner of the Gent Milling Company. (I hope I have that correct!)
