The History of Bartholomew County Indiana Volume II lists the Dettmer School as the #3 Jackson Township in the 1879 Atlas and the location as on the west side of 500W south of 930S.
My aunt owns this picture and she said, “the schools in Jonesville were full and some of us were bused to the Dettmer School.” She can also recall that the Jonesville students had wet shoes after it rained or snowed as the bus couldn’t get up the hill at the school and the students were required to walk up the hill.
Wonderful photo, Richard, and thank your aunt for sharing it. I believe these are the 'kinds' of photos that lady in 'that gov't office' we went to, is working on for other areas. Would have to look for her name, but...................you know who I mean. For others FYI, this lady has quite a 'collection' of these kinds of school photos that she is identifying. As an example, she had one for Grammar, that had my aunt in it correctly identified. She has done an amazing amount of research in this area.
New screen name, same me---Nanc, emails should go to "Nanc" as on the members list. Thanks. Have a super day!
