Bob Thanks for your time to straighten all this out !! Naverne Wille was a member of the CHS Class of '55 and did indeed run track.
Do you get your sleuthing capabilities from all those years in the service ?? Your old 5th Street neighbor...Margo
PS... anyone know how the phrase " Gum Shoe" came about and is it one word or two?

Hi, and I have to go along with Margo, and needed 'gum shoe/gumshoe' explained. As frankly, all I could think of was those crepe soled shoes that came out when we were kids, maybe before even that!!!! Check out this site for a definition/origin of 'gumshoe.' Interesting!!!! www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19981110Nanc ;-)

Is there a place on the message board specifically for information about churches in Columbus? I can't find it! There was discussion a few weeks back about the bell tower of First Christian. I have gotten new info........but can't find any place to put it!

Rhonda, If I recall correctly I think I put in a post, under postcards, where Bob had posted a picture of First Christian Church. You might try checking there for starters. I had contacted our organist and asked if he knew why the bell/chimes are no longer in use and put his reply on where the post card was.

Great idea, David, and I am 'seeing people in the room,' but I can't figure out how to 'communicate.' So guess for the moment will have to just rely on the 'old fashioned way,' of emails. ;D Hi all, have a great evening. Keep working on the chat room, David. Nanc

Thanks for the warning! there are all kinds of weird people we live with in this world today. I guess that's why I love the 50's so much !!
!! The most trouble we go in to was chewing gum in Miss Murray's class. Sounds very tame in today's environment. Margo CHS Class of 55

The Dippty Doo that posts the gobbled goop........has a problem and it is best to ignore the problems and posts, "it" puts on... that Richard and David deletes. Just ignore the posts and post and read, and don't click the blue of the writings like Richard so well said............He or She thinks it is cute to do Dippty Doo junk messages........Another example follows:

For Your Information (FYI) About This Historical Board and David Sechrest's Other Historical SiteDavid, Richard and many other have researched the nation's internet sites about cities and towns. Guess what? This hometown web site is the most comprehensive and informative web site related to any town or city in the whole United States. It could be even better if we could obtain more folks like the reader's just posting something about their experiences in the great places called Bartholomew County and Columbus Indiana. Now, I and many are proud that we were raised in such a quality place and I suspect you the readers are too. Please consider adding to this great web of history. If you don't want to write or show pictures just send a message to any web email member and we will be happy to post your experiences and any pictures your may have. If you enjoy this place like several hundred or really thousands do, then please consider sharing your knowledge and experiences. All that view the boards here, would enjoy reading; what you have to say, and any pictures of the past and present you could forward. I am pleased to see your message Bob.
I know we have a lot of browsers - - which is wonderful. But we truly encourage each of you to " get your feet wet" by posting a message of your own experiences. 1 ) Just find a topic folder you are interested in - - scroll down to the last message ..and look down in the lower right corner in the blue area. You will find a link " Reply" 2) ...just click on it and a blank message board will appear for you to post on by typing in your thoughts.
3 ) When you are finished you may either click on the preview button (if you are like me and need to check your entry) or .. 4 ) click on post reply and VOILA !! you will see your message appear on the site!! Of course we URGE you to join us !! It's FREE and we would love to have you as a member.
There is even a folder to tell you how to join. If you do not understand just contact one of us and we will guide you through the process. Grandma Margo who needs to head to bed....

WARNING We have a crawler or unknown persons visiting this message board! Most posts are made in the middle of night here in America. It looks to me that the strange looking type that’s posted is in reality, links to web sites perhaps around the world. In my opinion if you were to click on these links, you could receive a Trojan Horse, Virus or Worm from the site these links would take you to! These posts are placed while being logged in as a guest with names such as DDD, XIAOQING, EWREWQ, TREY TYRPTT, REWREW and others that are similar. Below, you’ll see a sample of the Fonts that the unknown people are leaving. Be assured David or I will remove this type post as soon as we find it. DO NOT click on any of this type of strange Fonts. Viewing will not cause you any problems on your machine. Clicking on one of these could result in a Phone Home Program, Trojan Horse, Worm or Virus finding a home on your machine. David is actively working on a solution to this problem.bÊÐÅÍ Ãâ·Ñ²ÊÁåÏ ÂÔØ ÊÖ»ú ²ÊÐÅÏÂÔØ ´ýúÍÆ ÊÖ»ú²ÊÐÅ ²ÊÐÅÏ ÂÔØÃâ·Ñ²ÊÐÅ ÊЊͼƬ »úͼƬrl] ÊÖ»úͼ Ƭ Ãâ·ÑÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÊÖúÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÊÖ»úÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÊÖúÁåÉù ÊÖúÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÊÖ»úÁåÉù ÔÂÁÁÖ®ÉÏ ÊÖ»úÍ¼Æ ÊÖ»úÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÊÖ»úͼƬ ÊÖ»úÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ´ý»úÍ¼Æ Ãâ·ÑÁåÉù ÊÖ»úͼƬ ÊÖ»úÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÊÖ»úÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÁåÉù ÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÊÖ»úÁåÉù ÊÖ»úÁåÉù ÊÖ»úÁåÉù ÊÖ»úͼƬ ÊÖ²ÊÁå ÊÖ»úÁåÉùÏÂÔØ Ãâ·Ñµã¸è MP3ÁåÉù ÎҵĹûÖ·ÖÄãÒ»°ë ÏãË®Óж¾ ÔÂÁÁÖ®ÉÏ QQ°® ãЦÁåÉù ÊÖ»ú²ÊÐÅÍ¼Æ ÊÖ»úÁåÉùÏÂÔØ ÊÖ»ú²ÊÁå »Å²»ÅÂ

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the Last 50 topics? For about three or four days now, I can not get that to load. Do you think its just my server? No idea, but I sure miss being able to jump in and see whats going on. I was just curious if anyone else is having a similar problem? Thanks

Babs I may be at fault because I posted a lot of pictures from the Columbus Historical Celebration. I wish I could help you but maybe if we keep typing short comments they will be just stored for call up. I have high speed Road Runner and it doesn't affect my call-up of the last 50. Sorry, I know it slows down telephone line hook-up ups. Road Runner is cable with television and high speed. Also, some over-sized pictures contribute possibly. UPDATE: Babs and all the pictures of the Columbus Historical Celebration are stored herein at the 2nd Annual Columbus Historical event and many Crump Theater pictures by Rhonda and myself. I see Richard has reduced the number of initial call-ups of posts from 50 to 24 which helps with the speed. Most of the slowness may have been the pictures. Thanks Richard that was a very smart move. I have added a new page to the Historic Columbus Indiana website. It is a pictorial of our 2nd Annual Columbus Historic Celebration, accompanied with a song!
Bob, I hope you don't mind that I used the pics that you put on the Message Board...
Thanks...for the memories...

This really belongs in the Message Board Changes Folder, but since the question was asked here, I will attempt to answer it here.
Babs, I set the Post link at the bottom to 50, hoping to cover posts that everyone may not have had a chance to read. Some do not check out the Message Board every day, so I thought by setting it at 50 that it might cover most info so people could get caught up.
I have to admit: this feature is really for those of you that have high speed internet service. If you have dial-up, it's going to take a long time for that link to come up.
Maybe I need to re-evaluate this setting, and make it somewhat smaller?
Let me know.

I forget how slow things load when you have dial-up Is there a way to have a choice of 50 and also a lower quantity like 10? It may not be "do-able" but I would often miss messages when the the number was small.
