Hi Dave...........Glad to hear that you enjoyed this site. Yes , I was your paper boy from 1945 to 1949 and was a classmate of your sister, I hope she is doing well. I remember Dan Walls Garage well, it was on my way home from my paper route and if the door was open I would stop and see if they were doing any work on the race car, Dan could make the old flat head Ford six preform like an Offy and I believe his brother Lowell also used the Ford six that Larry Crockett drove, number 23 I believe. Dan's number I believe was 110. I attend the first race at the Columbus Speedway and many after that, the first two or three years I rode my bicycle out to the track from 12th and Lafayette Ave until I got my first Cushman motor scooter. I have attended some of the Old timers Events at the fairgrounds in the past and will try to do so this year, and bring the pictures. Will miss Shorty Prather this year, he was a regular and also was on my paper route.

Hi George.I remember when you had the Cushman and delivered our papers. Betty is doing well, except she lost her husband Lynn Lowery a year and a half back, and she misses him very much.My father also had a garage behind our house across from Dan Walls. Hope to see you at the racers reunion this Saturday. Thanks again for all of the info and photos that you have provided on the boards.

Was Larry Crockett's nickname "Crash" Crockett?

Bear, you are correct, Larry started racing at a early age and was a little wild, so the name crash was given him. But he went on to become a professional driver, driving at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Larry was named rookie of the year in 1954 at the Speedway. Sad to say but he had a short racing career, he was killed in a sprint car race in March of 1955 at Longhorn, Pa., he was 28 years old.

On display at the Old Timers event at the 4H fairgrounds was the 1950 Cummins car the Green Hornet. Holding a photo of the car is Herman Johnson who attend the race that year.
