This postcard is postmark May22,1911, it shows the 2nd St. iron bridge that was built in 1884 and replaced the old wooden toll bridge that was constructed in 1879. The wooden toll bridge ran parallel to the J M & I railroad bridge shown in the back ground on the card.

George, Thanks for this postcard you posted on the old Columbus High School. Silly me, but I'm still sad over the loss of my old high school. I know they say they needed a new building and perhaps they did but it's still sad for such a building to have been destroyed.
Thanks for the memories! :-)

So for I have been unable to find any information on this card, the sign on the porch says Columbus,Ind. It appears to be a hotel or a depot, on the back of the card it has photographed by Harry Conrad?. The man on the porch is holding what I first thought may be a fishing pole, but thinking back I recall that a pole or device like that was used to retrieve small mail bags from trains and interurbans that did not always stop at some small stations or towns.

The Presbyterian Church at 7th and Franklin St., this card is unused, there fore there is no date on the card. The streets appear to be unpaved, making the card near a 100 years old.

The sanborn maps of 1886 shows the Reeves Stacker Works located east of Wilson St. between 5th. and 6th., now the location of Cummins Engine Co. The postcard is unused there for it is not dated. The Straw Stacker was one of Reeves first products.
