This information from 1957 was in the Looking Back column in today’s paper. Described as one of the largest gatherings for a funeral in local history, hundreds of Columbus residents paid final respects to Arthur Booker, who was well-known through his work as a messenger and custodian at Irwin Union Trust Company and a former chauffeur for the Irwin, Sweeney and Miller families.

Thanks Richard, I missed seeing this in the newspaper this morning and I knew Mr. Booker.
I worked at Irwin Union Bank beginning the middle of my senior year in high school and Mr. Booker, or just "Booker" as we all called him, was one of the sweetest, nicest men you would ever hope to meet. He met us each morning as we came in to work and his smiling face was to be seen during the day as we went about our "banking duties".
Not too long ago during the time when Don and I drove some people around for the Senior Center to doctor appointments, etc. we had occasion to met a nephew of Mr. Booker. We drove the nephew to Marion, Indiana to the VA hospital facility in that city and I have to say he was just as nice as his uncle was.
I can see how a lot of people would've turned out for this kind man's funeral. He was indeed a very special person.
