Hello- What sort of items are you interested in? I could bring pencils, yardsticks, signs [from small to large], paper items, books, memorbilia, etc. I would like to bring items that would not duplicate what others are bringing in case space is limited. Let me know what would be of the most interest.

It's been some time since I updated the info here regarding our Get-Together at Donner Park on Saturday, July 15th.
I came up with a name to call the Get-Together: Columbus! Celebrating Our History.
The info has begun to appear in the Zone in the Friday edition of the Republic.
Posters to distribute around town should be ready tomorrow.
Here is a basic itenerary of the day's events. This is subject to change, but this is what we've got so far:
11:30 to 1pm: Vendors, Displayers set up and get things ready 1pm to 2pm: Mingling, play "computer" music, and show old pics of Columbus (showing pics will go on all day long). 2 to 3pm: Craig Thayer, Music 3 to 5pm: Donna Kuhlman, Genealogy Society speaks. Fred speaks? Harry McCawley speaks? Anyone who would like to share their memories to speak. Please contact me! 4 to 6pm: Mingling 6 to 9:30pm: music, Tim Grimm, Dale Sechrest, and Matt Nowlin 9:30 to 10pm: Wind things down.
Vendors: sylvia whorton (books about Death Valley) kenneth landreth (Tellman Camp) bob schwartzkopf (Cummins Bookstore) george kelly (Displays of Columbus products) columbus indiana architectural archives jim loesch (Displays of Columbus products) Joy Deckard (Books and pictures) tamara iorio (Postcards) bartholomew county genealogical society visitors center? historical society?
Hot Dogs, Cokes, and novelty items will be available for purchase.
Hopefully, we will get some additional vendors and "displayers!"
Bob Anderson, Stillframes Photography, will set up and take individual or group pictures. A 5 x 7 will cost $8.00.
That's how things stand right now. More updates to follow!

Ricky, one time you mentioned something about a tour of the City Cemetary during the event.
Is this something you could do? Could you please email me and let me know?

I am still willing to lead a very informal tour through the cemetery. For those interested, we can walk through the cemetery together and I will point out gravesides and history that I am aware of such as Clessie Cummins, the Reeves family, Irwin-Sweeney- Miller, the Crumps etc. As we go I will encourage others to share their knowledge as well. For those of you who have followed these announcements regarding the Celebrate Columbus History day at Donner Park on Saturday, July 15th, from 1 to 10pm, you are really in for quite a visual treat.
Jim Loesch will be bringing a number of items to display, including a REEVES automobile from the turn of the century, and a Cummins engine.
Jim will also be bringing some art deco items that were taken out of the old Rio Theatre, plus many more items.
As it looks right now, we are going to have a wonderful number of items for both viewing and purchasing.
In today's mail, I received some give-away items from Tony Stewart.
Ricky Berky will be giving a tour of the City Cemetery, and Donna Kuhlman will be speaking on behalf of the Genealogical Society.
Many more events are planned for the day.
Keep up to date here, as I will be updating things on a more regular basis in the coming weeks!

Well, we had our "next to the last meeting before the BIG BLOWOUT" tonight at Donner Park Shelter House. I must admit, there were times I felt like I really wasn't accomplishing very much and other times I felt like I bit off way more than I could chew, but today! Well...it just seems like everything is falling into place.
Now--if the weather will only cooperate with us on the 15th!
As things stand right now, here is the itenerary for the 15th:
1PM Kick-Off; Introductions 2 - 3PM Fred Armstrong To Speak; Harry McCawley To Speak; Donna Kuhlman To Speak 3 – 4PM Music by Craig Thayer 4 – 5PM Guided Tour Of The City Cemetery (Ricky Berkey, Tour Guide) 5 – 6:30PM Door Prizes 6:30 – 7:30PM Music By Tim Grimm 7:30 – 8:30PM Music By Dale Sechrest 8:30 – 9:30PM Wind Things Down
The vendor/display list is as follows:
Sylvia Whorton-local author Kenneth Landreth-local author Cummins Bookstore, Bob Schwartzkopf-display and sell Columbus memoriabilia George Kelly-display Columbus memorabilia Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives-info & display Jim Loesch-huge display, including the 1907 Reeves' Worth automobile and a Cummins engine Joy Deckard-local author Tamara Iorio-postcard collection Bartholomew County Genealogical Society-info and display Norm & Betty ryle-Columbus memorabilia Bartholomew County Historical Society-Columbus memorabilia
Hot dogs, cokes, and novelty candies will be sold all day
There may be a few additions to the above itenerary.
Coverage has been wonderful, thanks to WHUM, 98.5 on your FM Dial, and The Republic. Announcements should appear in tomorrow's Connect column and The Zone.
One clarification about the Door Prizes. Prizes will be drawn throughout the day, and not just between 5 and 6:30.
We will have one last meeting next Thursday, July 13th, at Donner Park Shelter, 6:30pm.
I will be arriving at the shelter around 9am on the morning of the 15th to start getting things ready. I welcome anyone that would like to come out and help get things ready.
I want to thank Richard, George, Babs, Joy and Louie, Margie, Nancy, Ricky, Jim & Tim, and Linda for all their help and support.
So...grab your favorite lawn chair and join us for a lot of fun on the 15th!

I hope I'm not stealing Richard's thunder here... Jim Loesch brought the 1907 Worth to the park for tonight's meeting. Richard brought his camera along, and snapped this picture. If weather permits, this automobile will be on display on the 15th...

Dave, You should put together a flyer/poster with the information and tentative schedule that we could all print out and circulate around town.
Tim Grimm has put a description of the event on his website on his tour schedule page. Great coverage in today's "Zone". I can't remember seeing such a well publicized event. Good work!

A Voice from the Past... This is Margo McCalip Hughey CHS Class of '55 who has not posted for quite a long time due to health issues. I just heard from my sister..Leanna Aly ( CHS Class of '56) in Orlando Florida and she and her husband are making a trip up for this event !
I have one more CT Scan in Indianapolis to endure on Monday and I am still hoping that I can have a table at this event. I have a lot of items and pictures from the old CHS (Central) school and from our 1955 Class' Lunch Bunch. I doubt if I can stay all day but will plan to be there as long as I can. Looking forward to meeting and chatting with as many as possible. Anyone coming from my old 5th and California Street neighborhood ?

Margo! Great to see you back, and all of us hope you can make it on Saturday!
Speaking of Saturday...
The extended forecast isn't looking too bad. A 30% chance of SCATTERED thunderstorms, and a high around 83. Let's hope and pray for no rain at all!
I do hope that everyone interested in Columbus history will be able to spend some time with us on Saturday. It's going to be a fantastic time. Lot's of new people to meet, and lot's of nifty things to see (I don't think "nifty" is used anymore, huh?).
I encourage everyone to BRING YOUR OWN LAWN CHAIR!
The itenerary that I posted last week still holds up. Bring the kids, your mom and dad, your grandparents, or a close friend and enjoy the day with us.
I look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday!
