I should have created this new Thread a while back. Please excuse me for not doing it earlier.
I will copy and paste the appropriate Threads from the July 15th Celebration here to keep everything in one place!

A quick update here. We held our first meeting last night regarding next year's celebration and had eleven people on hand. We discussed where, what, when and who will be involved.
If this year's very first event was a hit, just wait till next year. :-)
Room for more of you to join in and get in on the initial planning of the event, so if you are interested, the next meeting will be in three weeks on Tuesday October 17th, 6:30 p.m. at the BCHS museum on Third Street, downtown Columbus. Please come out and get involved. There is plenty to do and the more volunteers we have the better it will be for everyone. Its also a great way to meet new people and make new friends! :-)
Date and location for our "second annual event" will be announced after the next meeting or whenever a firm date can be locked in.

A grateful " Thanks " to Jim Loesch for inviting us to use his company's building as our meeting place.
I enjoyed so much seeing all the old license plates on the walls... the numerous large gasoline cans.... and the display of small oil cans. Good to greet the committee members from last year and to welcome two new ones to our group... Michelle B. from ther BCHS and Orwic (?) J. I second Babs request to have some other people join us to plan the next event. YOU do not have to be local...just ask NANCS
It's FREE... it's FUN... and It's FOR YOU !!!
Looking forward to the October 17th meeting at the Historical Society's building on third street. Blessings ....Margo

For those who don't know the 2007 event is already being planned. It will be in The Commons on April 14th (10am till 5pm). There is major downtown development planned for the Commons and Courthouse Mall space in mid 2007 so it will be one of the last chances to experience The Commons space as it is now. As controversial as it once was it has been a gathering space for Columbus events of all kinds for well over 30 years. I think its an important part of downtown history.
We also hope to somehow focus on the old Central Middle School building (CHS to many of you!) as it will be facing the wrecking ball before the start of the 2007 Fall class sessions.
Nanc, I hope you might somehow be able to make it again this year....you are with us in spirit as you were such a big part of last years event.I was just thinking, do you suppose we should rename this particular topic as the next event is not going to be July 15th as this years was? Perhaps take the July 15th out of the headline? It might be confusing to some.

OK, that's the jist of items from the other folder, and that should bring us up to date, pretty much. As Ricky posted, EVENT: The 2nd Annual Columbus History Celebration
WHEN: Saturday, April 14, 2007, From 10am to 5pm
WHERE: The Commons Mall, Downtown ColumbusSome of the items discussed at last night's meeting: We discussed possible speakers and musical entertainment People, groups, and organizations that would possibly want to display historic Columbus memorabilia. Ricky Berkey will give two historic walking tours of downtown Columbus. Since the old Central school building will be demolished next year, we would like to acknowledge it in some manner. The cost of using the Commons will be $75. The Historic Columbus Indiana website will ask for donations to cover the cost of using the mall, as well as supporting the website. The poster will be designed by Joy Deckard. Posters and flyers will be put up and passed out beginning in March, 2007. Please take into consideration that all of this is in the planning stages, and subject to change.
We also set a deadline for those of you who would like to have a table to display your Columbus related items. There is no cost for a table! Deadline for getting your table will be Monday, April 2, 2007.
If you are interested in getting a table, please email myself bc1columbus@sbcglobal.net or the Bartholomew County Historical Society bchs@tls.net. Click on either email link to contact us! Any and all are invited to attend our meetings. The next meeting date, time and location will be posted here shortly!

Next meeting is scheduled for December 11th at 6:30 at the Bartholomew County Historical Society building on Third Street (at least this is what I have in my notes per information passed along to me when I missed a meeting a month ago).
We had 13 people in attendance at last night's meeting and everyone seemed interested in getting involved and moving things along. Always room for more to join in though, so if you are interested, mark December 11th on your calendar and come join us.

Last year, during our celebration, we all signed a banner for Charlie Snyder. For those of you who know him, (and those of you who might not!)Charlie is a great Bartholomew County history buff.
The reason I'm writing is to let everyone know that Charlie will be in the hospital for (at least) the next three weeks....beginning today. I thought maybe everyone would/could/should send him cards of encouragement, Here is the note he sent me in response to some photos I e-mailed him:
[glow=red,2,300]Rhonda: You really do have a beautiful tree. My that took a lot of work but think it is always worth it. I go Monday to the St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indianapolis, for my second round of chemo and they want me there for 3 weeks. It will be a hard dosage and my immune system will go down to zero and they want to monitor everything. I still feel fine and makes you wonder about doing it but Dr. says it is just a matter of time until it would spread so not much choice. I am sending a lot of xmas things out now since I will be gone. Have set the Lawson cards on dated times to be sent out so hope it works. Will see you when I get home. You can tell your mother. I may take our lap top along and if I do will stay in touch and let you know how I am doing. Thanks for the concern. Charlie[/glow]
If you'd like his e-mail address, or even his home address, e-mail me. Rhonda

Thanks so much, Rhonda, for the info on Charlie. What a special guy he is!!!!!
We all need to keep him in our thoughts and prayers. And let's just all 'flood that hospital room' with cards.
I did an internet check, and think I came up with the address of the hospital that Charlie will be in. I thought I'd give that a try as a way to get a card to him. Check it out that way, too.
Nanc ;-)

Our prayers and thoughts will be with you, Charlie, as you undergo more chemo. Good luck, stay positive and get this over soon, so you can come home.

Ditto to Margo's post. Welcome home Charlie and pray your recovery is speedy . No body likes being in the hospital that I've ever met. :-(
Glad you are back in your own bed and I'm sure much more comfortable. :-)

We had a great meeting on Monday night and things are starting to really come together for our next event, to be held April 14th at the Commons.
Nice pictures, Richard, all but the one from behind that wasn't very flattering. :-(
Sorry I will be gone when the next two meetings take place. Spoke with Rhonda earlier today and if the tables are just 6 foot long she will need two for her furniture. I told her I thought that was the size that was mentioned at the meeting and am taking this way so others will know her need as I won't be at the meeting....and Linda is out of town. I know she was taking notes on who all wanted to display. I will try to remember to email her when she returns from CA but in case I don't will someone inform her of the need for two tables for the Lincoln Chair and Orinoco furniture exhibit.

I haven't read most of this and am out of time, but is there any way to tour Central before it gets demolished? I haven't been there for over 20 years and would like to go through it before it is gone.

Terry May I add my welcome to our newest member !
It may be difficult to arrange a tour of CHS as school will still be in session in April. We DO appreciate your suggestion and PLEASE keep them coming ! I do know that we are hopefully planning a tour of The Crump theatre as part of the Down Town Walking tours that Ricky Berkey will be doing that day.
I will bring this suggestion up at the next planning committee meeting in January and see how the members feel.
WE DO HAVE CONFIRMATION from THE CHORDLIGHTERS that we will be having Barbershop singing on our program that day !!!
Bob ~ ~ ( RER) I am hoping you and your wife will plan to attend as I have heard this group many times and they are FANTASTIC !
HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS everyone !
PLEASE join me in the church of your choice as we await the coming of God's greatest gift...THE CHRIST CHILD !!
