Hello all and just to let you know our "event" was published in The Zone today. Not as sent in but anyway its a "beginning" I suppose. Check out The Zone under upcoming events/calendar. Just a small blurb, but guess a little something is better than nothing!
Great news on the Chordlighters, Margo. Way to Go!!!! :-)

NLHill, and other interested folks, Nanc here, and being that I am in CA, I only manage to be at the meetings, as David put it, 'in spirit,' as work is being done in preparation for the 2007 celebration on April 14th. I did just check the minutes of the December meeting and the next meeting will be on Jan. 8, 2007. So at least get that date on the calendar, and it is usually an evening meeting. Richard, David, Margo, Babs, George, Linda, somebody, please fill in the details, as I am not certain of the location nor the time. Also, want to take this opportunity to welcome the new members to the message boards. Join the fun, and post your memories of 'Growing Up Columbus.' Nanc

To NLHill, Welcome and so glad to have you join us. The meetings are fun and informative and everyone will make you feel welcome and glad you joined in. The first event, which was held in July at Donner Park, in my opinion, was a huge success and from that point on they are just going to get better and better.
Mark your calendar and show up at BCHS on January 8th and I promise you will enjoy it. We have a terrific group of people involved and we have a grand time.

Happy Holidays to all near and far. Thanx for letting a Columbus "newbie" be such a part of this group...I truly appreciate it . Thanks for all your pictures, all your memories and your friendship. I could never express what a life changing experience discovering Columbus was for me. This is truly a special community on so many levels.

Since this seems to be the place where we are wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year....
Well... MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND I DO WISH ALL A WONDERFUL 2007! Now...
terrys...I'm a little late here but,,, welcome to the Historic Columbus Indiana Message Board! To try and answer your question about touring Central, I think it is something we need to try and explore. Maybe Michelle Bottorff at the Historical Society could help us with this.
Next, Ricky--it's a true pleasure to know you. You have contributed so much to this Message Board, as well as our committee plannings. You may consider yourself a "newbie," but you know a heck of a lot about the history of this "little" town...
Getting back to the matter at hand regarding the Celebration on April 14th..
I spoke with Claudette at the Commons Mall this past week, and the Refro's are interested in participating. I think that's great. It might be that they will display items concerning a history of the Commons. It will be interesting to see if this pans out.
At the next meeting, I would like to propose that we write a letter regarding the celebration and pass it out to all the downtown businesses so they will know what's going on, and possibly participate. It would be nice to get a letter out to them as soon as possible.
Well, that's about it at the moment. I hope everyone here has a wonderful day today, and maybe we'll have a white Christmas, huh?

Ricky, You may consider yourself a "newbie" but boy do you know your history of this small town! We are fortunate to have you on our committee and as a member of this site. Sometimes the new folks in town know more and contribute more than some who have lived here all their lives and never been anywhere else. Maybe that is why this town is so special to some of us who have lived other places or who came here from other towns!
One of these days I'm going to be in town long enough and at the proper time to take the Visitor's Center class so I can be a guide. Rhonda told me they might consider putting the course on tapes in the future and that would work out great for me. I think it would be a great thing to do and also just lots of fun to show/explain to out of town visitors about our "special small town"!

We had a very productive meeting on Monday night.
Joy Deckard has done an awesome job of creating a LOGO for us !! Thanks JOY..it will be wonderful to have something official to use in our future correspondence. This same logo will appear on all our posters.. advertising.. and letters in the future as we promote this event.
Nanc Stevens had sent some samples of note cards to be used that day.. and I think we were all pleased with her efforts.
Babs now has information on our April event posted weekly in the Zone section of our local paper.
If you have any contacts for travel magazines or publications that would be able to print something concerning our event for FREE...please contact me..mar_hughey@hotmail.com.
Looking forward to our next meeting Monday January 29th at 6:30pm at the same location . HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE !! Margo

Another great meeting and must say we surely need to extend our "thanks" to Margo who just jumped right in and ran with the ball! Way to go Margo. You've done a tremendous job.
Also Joy brought the sample poster and asked for input from the committee and I think they came up with good suggestions and we will have a "very fine poster". She will get another draft printed up and then email the committee to tell them when they can come into The Heartland and check it out before it goes to the final printing.
Not many meetings left before the Event so lets all pull our share and be ready and willing to jump in and lend a hand. Next meeting is March 26th at 6:30 at the BCHS.

Why can't we post a picture of the 2007 poster on the Historical net ?
Is it post number 31 here?

Bob
Thanks for asking about posting a copy of our Poster for the April 14th Event. Reply # 31 is just a copy of our Offical LOGO which will be used for all correspondence and future events. I asked Joy Deckard if the poster could be sent in an email and she says her copy is too large to do so. At our planning committee some one had said they were going to post it to a web site. Anyone remember who stated this ? So that tells me it is possible.
I may stop by Heartland and ask Bob next week. However.. this may detract from his complimentary contribution of printing the poster itself. ( Quite a large expense that was donated by him) Please take time to call Bob at Heartland Center 812- 376-3465 and tell him "Thanks !!" After the poster has been printed ( hopefully by Monday) somebody might have a suggestion on how this would be accomplished. Will send a list of speakers and entertainment scheduled for that day next week. . . Something for everyone to enjoy - I promise !!!
Am busy with my " Hoosiers Helping Our Troops ' Support Group this weekend..Stop by Donner Center on Sat if you have the time and say Hello ! Blessings and soft special hugs Grandma Margo
