Thanks, Richard for updating us about David!
I will keep him in my prayers ,also.
Bob, I'm so sorry I had to cut you off so short this morning. It was so good to hear your voice. Surely wish the Record boys were here in town.I know Steve Welmer is here. Would love to get the 5th street gang together again. It's so good to know you are back in Columbus, and I'm hoping to meet your wife ASAP. Also, I'm so very glad to hear your heart surgery went well !!! Was wondering about you when you stopped posting for a while.
I have another busy week planned, but am wondering if you plan to attend the Good Friday Service this Friday ? Location will be the CRUMP at noon. I know Rev. Kirby Rupp who will be in charge, and last year the program was emotional and spiritually uplifting. It will give all the attendees a chance to see the Crump once more. Hope to see you there.
Anyone else on here care to do lunch before or after the service ?? Let me know. Possibly the DQ? with Bob Franke ??

Friends, I tried to send a note of encouragement to David, and the email was bounced and a snail mail note was returned. If someone knows how I can contact him, please let me know. Bob Lane

It is of sad note that I must say the 3rd Annual Columbus Historic Celebration will not be held this year.
We are shooting to start anew when the new Commons opens.
Thanks to all who helped with the event last year, and thanks to all who came.
We will see you in 2010...

Dear Friends, I am very sorry to hear this also. Just know that I would not have the energy to put into one this year due to health issues. Not planning much after the end of May.
May I suggest you mark May 23rd, 2008 on your calendar?
They are planning a large Event to honor the former one located at 2nd and Franklin Streets, and the present location of Lincoln School on 5th street, as it will close at the end of this School Year, and be changed to a new name and curriculum.
I am still trying to locate Alumni or teachers from the former building. PLEASE email me, if you have any contact information !!

The HCI committee met last evening; had a delicious meal at the relocated Memphis BBQ now on 25th Street. Quite a few did make it to our meeting which was called to discuss whether or not we would try to do a pitch in dinner at Donner Park on Oct 11th. The concensus was that everyone had too many prior commitments on that date and since that is the final date the power will be on at the Shelter House, the pitch in dinner was more or less shelved. There are several other activities on the agenda for that date, not to mention IU football games, out of town guests arriving, etc.
So look for updates and plan on a really big event next year? We are all hoping that David will be feeling better and we can get organized and pick a great date and lock it in.
Thanks to all who attended; to those who couldn't make it, we missed you and just fyi: we are planning to get together again on November 6th, 6 p.m. same location. Hope to see more of you out for that event! :-)

Hope to see more of you out for that event! :-) Anyone who is interested in helping to plan an event in 2009 is Welcome to attend our very informal meetings. We need to make some decisions real soon on a date and place. We probably will again pick the Donner Park Shelterhouse or Donner Community Center depending on weather and avalability. Anyone with any other suggestions is welcome to post thier ideas here or email any of the active members. We need a location that is in Columbus, a place with some degree of historic interest itself and that is easily accessible to all. Our other big dilemna is picking a date that doesn't conflict with other Columbus or local area events. Our first Festival was in the Donner Shelterhouse on a way too hot Summer day. We were spoiled by our 2nd huge event in the Commons that turned out so well but the new Commons is a long way away if it ever comes back. We were planning this year for the Donner Shelterhouse in October but due to a mixup in dates, we ended up in conflict with Ethnic Expo and the Homes Tour, several of us are very involved in both events. Many also thought October would possibly be to cold for what we wanted to do. We are a very informal grass roots organization interested in Columbus History and inspired by the vision of David Sechrest and his HistoricColumbusIndiana.org website. Your ideas and suggestions are welcomed!

I wonder if any place at the air base could be available, perhaps a hanger or a portion of one could be donated or rented if we could come up with funds for that. That would provide room and shelter from sun/rain for booths and displays. There is the museum there and a couple of restaurants. This is not far from mid town. Just a thought. Bob Lane

Would the school system let us use the Central Middle School gyms? They have two gyms side-by-side. Perhaps if this event is held during the summer when school isn't in regular session, they would let us use the space? Just a thought. The big Rhodes hanger up at the airport might be another location. Anybody got any contacts there?
