Northside was a popular business, on the east corner of the 25th Street Shopping Center. Besides drugs and related items, they also had a lunch counter in the back for many years.

A good friend of mine worked at Northside drugs for years. Do you remember Central Drugs on the opposite caddy corner? They tore it down and Arrington put a filling station there, then it was an antique refinishing place after that. Central Drugs was small but did a thriving business. They too had a lunch counter and soda fountain. I lived within two blocks of there as a kid. Used to go there on hot summer afternoons and buy "Green Rivers". It was lime flavor syrup with carbonated water. Yummmmm. They did photo developing as well

I just remembered another thing about that corner. In thye early 60's there was a Chinese Restaraunt right next to the railroad tracks.... The Oreintal Gardens and on the other side of the tracks was a doctor's office in a little yellow house. ahhhhh nostalgia

Re: the Green River drink. I used to get those downtown at"The Greeks" as well and it was one of my favorites. One of the guys would make up any concoction we could dream up. Another favorite of mine was a marshmallow coke; boy did it fizz up when you stirred it! :-)

I use to go to Northside and get comics. At times when my parents were grocery shopping across the street, I would go in there and read them to pass the time. What is funny was a guy I went to Junior High with and maybe was in choir saw me there and that was how we first became friends. He later worked there, but I don't think he would have at that time. Neither one knew the other liked Super Heroes or comics until then.

The local paper reported today that the Northside Drugs opened in the 25th Street Shopping Center on this date in 1957.

It's depressing to find out that the drug store is closed and now home (as far as I know) to a copy shop.

Yes, the lunch counter in the back. Check out my Historic Columbus Indiana website ( www.historiccolumbusindiana.org). There are pictures of Northside Drugs on the website.

Just down from Northside Drugs in the mid to late 1960's was a laundromat. My grandmother and I would go there and while the clothes were drying we would walk down to Northsid e and she would pick up whatever she needed. I always got paper dolls or one of those "educational" books for math or spelling/reading they use to have. Occasionally I would pick out a coloring book. That was my weekly treat if I had been good!
