After reading this morning's paper, I hope there is some coordination going on between this project, and now one that The Republic is planning to publish. Does anyone at the paper know about your photo CD and flip-book? They are planning to publish a book of photos and stories.......the way it sounds.

Rhonda unfortunately after many attempts to ask the republic for assistance and collaboration they have decided to peruse there idea on their own and doesn’t want to associate with our cause.. It’s unfortunate but we understand their position.

We apparently had some photos that were sent through mass email in the form of a PDF titled Flood 08 to us back on June 9th, we couldn't find the originator of the photos, and was told that Scott Hines took them, obviously we were wrong. We spoke with Scott Hines who is a member of the band Relic and he said he didn’t know how that rumor got started… Scott sorry about that… We asked the Mayor's office to ask the republic to mention the DVD and they responded no they are not interested and they are creating their own photo book. We already have in works a photo book with 100 pages to sell to raise more money... but as of right now the DVD showing at the yescinema has been cancelled due to the threat from the republic. We have since removed them from the site and have been in communications with the family members of the photographer who took the aerial photos that are on www.therepublic.com site... I don't know who Sherry Stark is, but the Heritage Fund said that they are not sponsoring our charity, and we are to obtain an accountant and all donations should be made through a company. Just this past Friday we received a letter from the Heritage Fund thanking us for our efforts… We started this project with the hopes of helping families who suffered loss during the tragic time, but seem to run into walls. We have collected approx 1500 or more photos and still need more... I hope that this helps... it has always been our intent to work with the republic to make this a joint effort but due to my past experience they can't seem to let go and hold a grudge.

I don't know why the post before mine was removed... someone welcomed me to the board... just curious [/size] Hi columbusdrama. I'm sorry for the confusion. I posted questions before checking out your wonderful website. Since the info there answered my questions, I removed my post.
I received that same batch of pdf files some time back. I'd have to check my email to see when they were sent.
I also am aware of the aerial photos you mentioned, but right offhand, I can't remember if the photographer was identified on those. I'll have to check.
I have a couple of photos of Washington St. the night the flood hit, plus some pictures I took of Lawton St. on Saturday evening before it got real bad.
There are quite a few photos I took that I've yet to post. You are more than welcome to use any (of mine). I will contact you direct about this.
Once again, sorry about the confusion (and welcome...again!).

Here's a picture of Washington St. looking north. I took this picture on Sunday morning. Some of the water had receded by the time I snapped this. The photo is looking north from 16th Street.

I am not sure but I believe I may be responsible for some of the mass E-Mailing of the PDF file titled "FLOOD 08" which were aerial photographs of the June 7, 2008 flood. I am currently contacting my source for information of the originator of the photos. I will post again when I have the info. ;D

I look forward to you reply and I am eager to get your photos, I know they will be a great addition to the DVD, we have had several comments of disappointment since we don't show Lawton Street, Washington street as much...
If anyone would like to share YOUR photo's please email me at columbusind@gmail.com.
On the issue with the Flood08.pdf they have been tracked to the origin and who started the mass email... however we are not going to disclose who that was, but all issues with the republic have been settled... typing quick sorry about any misspellings...

Yes, we backtraced it like you attempted and was sucessful, however I don't think that the owner of the photographs (name withheld) intended it to disperse so quickly from there hands. lol

Eastside Community Center, 421 McClure Road, would be VERY GRATEFUL for any checks made out to them. The funds would be used to help with the ongoing project of supplying FREE evening meals to the flooded areas, along with items to pass out to the survivors.
I can assure you the funds would all be used in Columbus. Just a thought, if you cared to add them as a beneficiary for just the checks.

Even though we do not plan to finish our basement again for a while, I suppose I can now safely state that we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Most of my upstairs is back to normal, except the garage and the guest bedroom....both of which still have boxes, plastic totes, furniture, etc. piled high in them.
Yesterday we did get a check from our insurance; it is not anywhere near enough to cover our losses but like I told my hubby, "It's something and that's better than nothing!" In the beginning we had doubts our insurance would even help us out. Adding the insurance check and the amount we got from FEMA we figure we have about 1/3 of our losses covered, which of course means the other 2/3 will come out of our pockets. One thing neither one of us understand about this whole situation is the insurance never bothered to ask for pictures we took, although the adjuster did take his own and then asked me to email him the ones I took early on. Also the insurance had us make a list (which ended up being about five pages) of all our items lost. This was a little time consuming when you are in the middle of trying to save things, but I tried my best to come to the computer each and every day and add items to the list we remembered we had thrown out. I tried to send this list to the insurance using my Word Perfect but they weren't set up to take that, so I had my son redo the list in some other form that I then emailed to them. Also they asked us to FAX them copies of all our repair bills, which I did. When we got the final report, none of these things was ever considered. The check we received was based entirely on the adjuster's report and so I intend to ask the insurance gal we worked with just why when someone is going through a trauma like this that the ask them to do this when they don't even consider it in the final outcome. It was "busy work" or that's what I would call it, like when you give your child a chore to keep them out of something else. Well what they kept me from doing was accomplishing other work I could've been doing. Also it was not fun to dig through files to locate bills for the refrigerator, sofa, carpet, drywall, etc. It was time consuming and aggravating and then to discover that they didn't even use it in computing the amount they would pay us. It makes me a little bit angry with them. We are also upset that the adjuster, who was an independent, he didn't work for our insurance company, took so long to send in his report. I finally sent him an email and asked "if he had submitted his report, if not when would he submit it, and if he had already exactly what date did it go into the insurance company". Within two days of me sending him that email (which incidentally was over 5 1/2 weeks after he visited our home) he submitted his report to the insurance company. I suppose if I had not inquired, we might still be waiting. As far as we are concerned we feel FEMA did a terrific job, yes, we'd have liked to have received more but the fact we got anything was unexpected. We did not want to ask them for help to begin with but everyone kept insisting we do so. However, the way in which our insurance has handled the whole claim is another story entirely. I won't bore you with all the phone calls, numerous emails, etc. that went back and forth and usually each time the claims person would ask us for another one of "those busy work items"...I think all just stalling us.....BUT finally the end is in sight...not the end of the work but the end of dealing with the insurance company. Seven and a half weeks after the flood we are finally going to close the book on our dealings with our insurance. It will be months before we actually close the book on this mess here in our home and we may well never close it entirely.
I find both of us are forgetting things, I had a message from Bob Lane and I had posted on the 1952 class post rather than the 1953 about our upcoming reunion. Little things like that I suppose will continue to haunt us. Don has no idea what he did with one of his files, that he does definitely need to keep/find. Also somewhere along the way one of us has pitched out the electrical cords to the computer tower and monitor; who knows why!!!! The computer and the stereo are still in the garage waiting attention. I think he keeps putting off checking them out because he knows they are lost but he keeps hoping they aren't. We do need to get the computer to a computer store and have someone make sure that some of the things stored on it are not salvagable. The stereo, he just needs to set up again but with all the cords etc. he just keeps delaying. Don't think he's much in the mood to do this sort of thing.
One great thing I've got to call and check on and that came via our church. Had a call from a gal who is deeply involved in the helping of church members to restore their homes and she said a church out of Louisville has a crew who will come to our home and check it out and tell us what we need to do, how much it should cost, etc. All for free, its their ministry, so I guess I will call Kelley and ask her to set that up for us. Knowing an estimate of what the expenses will be should be a big help.
So many people have offered to help, phone calls, etc. You just don't know how much that has meant to us. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts. To each of you, and you know who you are, we will never be able to thank you enough.

FLOOD SURVIVOR MEETING today, Friday, August 1 at 4:30 PM. All Bartholomew County homeowners who were directly affected by the flood are invited to attend a meeting at Columbus North High School Auditorium this Friday, August 1 at 4:30 PM. The Long Term Recovery Team wants to ensure that everyone is aware of the need to file with FEMA and SBA and other requirements in order to receive local assistance. We will also announce a plan to begin assisting individuals with repair/rebuild needs. And we will answer all of your questions as best we know. If we don’t have the answer at hand, we will take your name and get you the answer. This is your opportunity to make sure that you know all there is to know, so that you can maximize the amount of assistance you receive. Please come early. At 3:30 we will offer snacks and soft drinks to all who attend. We want to provide a chance to relax for a moment in the midst of your hard work, and exchange stories with others who have shared a similar experience and with members of the Recovery Team. If you can’t come, please ask a relative, friend, or neighbor who is attending, to bring you the information and discuss it with you. We will have handouts of our presentation for everyone at the meeting. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I apologize for not posting this sooner. If you are not aware of this, I urge you to try to attend. The Long Term Recovery Team MAY have additional funds/materials to help you with rebuilding/recovery/. This is in addition to what you may have already received. I do not have any more details than that. Some of the info you may already know, but some of it is very new info just now being released. I am going to try to be there about 4:00

I was unable to attend this meeting due to the high humidity, and not being able to go today. If anyone did attend it, I would appreciate a short synopsis of what occurred.
For those of you that were able to volunteer at Eastside this week after my request message, I so appreciate it! Some of you I saw, others I recognized your names on the sign in sheets.
They will continue to deliver meals next week, and will be in need of drivers once again. Please call the Center (376-7840) anytime Monday after 9:00 am to let them know if you are available to drive/ deliver meals. All routes are in the Columbus city limits, except for Garden City.
We can always use more deserts,( Brownies, Cookies, Rice Krispie bars, simple cakes) as the main menu is usually supplied.
Now that the gas prices have dropped again, the temps are going up ! Take care outside, it's going to be hot this weekend, and next week.

OUR EMERGENCY ROOM IS OPEN ONCE MORE!!!!! THAT IS WONDERFUL NEWS.
Did you see the picture in yesterday's newspaper? What did anyone else think about that poor man who is "still sweeping water" from his basement south of town? :-( I can't imagine. Its been two months and some of those people out that direction are still getting water? There has to be something wrong with the pond or something.
Also understand from email from Margo that the Eastside Community Center is still delivering meals to flood survivors. What a tremendous job they are still doing.
Hang in there folks, we will get through this!
