Gathering of Names Clifford High School Small School Closed In Late 1950s
Jerry Schofield told me today that his Junior year at Clifford (before moving to Columbus) had several other names he recalled.
He said his Junior year the starting five basketball team included himself, Bob Essex, Bill Mitchell, Bill Rose, Paul Wallace.
Earlier years while he played there was a guy named Homer Dale Andrews (Hink), and Ronnie Trotter.
Additionally, Linda Gray said she has learned that one of the teacher's name was Lena Pancake. Stay tuned maybe we will pull up some more names of students and teachers soon.
You can assume that many folks that attended Clifford may have worked and possible moved to Columbus over the years. If anyone has pictures or names we would be glad to see them.

Clifford School Faculty in 1949 First of all, let me put a disclaimer to this list. As you can see, the names are hard to read. This list is my best effort to interpret the names from the picture. I’ve sent a question to a couple of people for help with this and as yet have not received a reply. Eleanor E. Brown, Joseph R. Brown, Don E. Dilley, Barbara Lewis, Edna McMahan, Helen Hagen, Lena Pancake, Arlene Quilleon Photo Courtesy of Linda Brown

my dad graduated in 1957 from Clifford. I was in the 6th grade and the last class to attend Clifford Elementary! I believe I was in 2nd grade when the floor/ceiling? collapsed into the basement. We were out on recess and had just finished lunch! I remember Miss Hager, Mrs.Tarrh , and Mr.Meyer, just to name a few. My best friend Kim at the time and I used to play with Liddle Kiddle dolls outside at recess! There also used to be bats that would fly around inside the school too! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Former Columbus High School Basketball great Jerry Schofield sent me an email this morning and says that when he attended Clifford School that these same teachers and staff members were there during 1951-1954. He said: "I remember two. Don Dilley and Edna McMahon." Jerry "Scho" Schofield Clifford School Faculty in 1949 First of all, let me put a disclaimer to this list. I found the photo of the 37-38 Basketball team at the Historical Society Library years ago when I scanned in photos from their school collection. I have those players listed from the back of the photo as: Bob Andrews, Bill Murphy, Lawrence Rutan, William Simmons, William Everroad, Robert West, John Nading, Tom Andrews, Jim Molford and John P. Simmons. Sorry, I do not know which row the list started with, but if someone can connect one of those names with a face, it should fall into place. I believe Robert West was probably my cousin, brother to Bessie (West) Boyd. She was the wife of Clancy Boyd and went by the name of "Ted". She began researching our one-room schoolhouses before she became ill and left her notes with the Historical Society hoping someone would pick up on the project one day. I have always intended to, but finishing a project is not my strong suit.

Many of you wondered where have the pictures gone? Several months ago, Imageshack closed their web site. Several of the members of this board used Imageshack and found their pictures were no longer available. After the update of this board pictures can now be uploaded directly from your computer.
To post a new picture or replace a missing picture do the following. Click the Reply button for a new post. If re posting, click the Edit button. The following instructions are for both new and re posting.
At the top right you will see Add Attachment. Click that button and a new Add Attachment window will open. In that window click on the +Add Files button.
Now go to the file (picture) you want to post or add and click it. Next, click the open button. A thumbnail will appear in the window. To the right of that thumbnail click the inserts button.
Then click the done button.
