Harry McCawley wrote an article for today's paper regarding the Columbus Bar. He mentioned Sap Essex and Orville Beatty as owners. Orville was Joy Deckard's father. Joy loaned me a picture taken inside Columbus Bar in the 1940's. Standing behind the bar is her father, and Sap Essex in uniform. This picture is on the website, but I thought it would be nice to post it here as well.

I remember the Columbus Bar from the late 1960's. Me and my buddies would drive down to Everroad's Garage at 5th and Jackson and wait for Alan to get off work. This trek normally took place on Fridays.
I was usually the one who collected enough money from everyone for CB's tenderloin deluxe (they were $1.50 a piece). I'd walk out the 5th Street side garage doors of Everroads and cut down the alley to the back of the CB. There was a doorbell/buzzer by the door. George Nentrup normally came back and took my order. I'd usually go in the back door and stand in a narrow hallway and wait.
The CB's tenderloin was one of the greatest sandwiches in Columbus. Period. The cuts weren't pounded out and breaded. And if I remember correctly, didn't they get them from Stadler's?
I was a frequent visitor to the CB when I was 14. I delivered the Courier Journal and eventually ended up with two routes, one of which was downtown. Every Friday, I'd go in through the front door and collect.

Harry also wrote an article about the oysters that were served at The Plantation, I have the article, but I am looking for a picture of the front of this Bar that Sat at the corner of 8th and Jackson, it was formerly "Little Harlem" for years. I only have small pictures from the inside of the bar, and I am needing a picture of the full front.
Any Help would be great!
Thanks,
Kati

Thanks, Kati A GREAT BIG WELCOME, Kati, and all the other recent new members, as well as guests that visit these message boards. I sort of recall that there was a photo posted on these boards, some long while ago, of 'Little Harlem.' I did a quick search, but didn't come up with what I remembered. I did a search for 'Little Harlem' for about 1000 days, but it well could have been even before that...................... Richard--------maybe you can find it-----------for some reason think that the info, and perhaps the picture came via Charlie. Again, WELCOME, and stick around--------these boards are a ton of fun, and a wealth of information. Nanc

I have no idea the name of this Columbus Bar, but as you can tell several worker types with hats are being served.
