Please post your memories, photos and questions about Castalia here. The former home of Miss Elsie Sweeney is located in Harrison Township.

Sometime in the early 70's, my father remodeled parts of Castilia. I remember him building a stable for the horses and I actually saw my father ride one of the horses and jump the obstacles in the riding ring. I was so impressed because I didn't know my father even rode horses at all. I was about 18 or 19 and someone in the house gave me a set of giant gold draperies that used to separate the big room in the front. I had one whole wall of my Reed St apartment covered with those gold drapes. We went to a great party there when we finished the remodeling

Call the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archive and make an appointment to come dig through our files on Castalia. We have lots of old publications with photos of the property. We also have the original blueprints. 812-379-1297. We are an all-volunteer organization, so you will need to leave a message...and I'll get back to you! I'll be glad to help you find what you need!

Thank you so much for the offer to call! I'll be taking you up on it soon. We bought Castalia and should be closing late next week. I'm excited to bring some of "old" Castalia back and will take any information I can get. I also love hearing stories about what people remember about the house, so thanks for sharing. It's such a great piece of property, I'm very much looking forward to bringing it back to life!!
