Hello to Jerry and Bobby Records. Yes Bob, Hetty S. Still calls you Bobby, as you know. I printed your posts of April 7 and 8th and took it to her. In any case she said that she thinks the small grocery across from the Lutheran church was Ketners or Katners.
Have a GREAT weekend!

My wife and I visited Columbus last summer and went to see Hetty. She is such a grand lady and still has a great sense of humor and super memories of the past. We throughly enjoyed our visit with Hetty and all the past get togethers she had with our family. Thanks for giving Hetty Marie S. those posts and I would write her if she had a email, but I am not sure if she does. Bob

May I ask who Hetty S is? You have my curiousity stirred. She must have lived on 5th street or in the neighborhood if she remembers that little grocery store. It may have been Ketner's or I may have the name mixed up with some of my relatives, Arthur Ketner. He used to take the kids from the Home for a ride in his car when he was in Columbus on the weekends.
Waiting on a response....Margo McCalip Hughey

Hi Bob! Yes, you nailed me. I drove Hetty to the store this past winter when the roads were bad and she talked about how much she enjoyed the visit by you and your wife. Also, you’re correct. She is a GRAND LADY. She doesn’t have e-mail. I met David Sechrest, the webmaster of this site in early 2003. He’s ten years younger than you and eleven than I, so I try to help him with some of the 1940 early 1950 questions he sometimes has. I’ve sent him some things that he’s used and some he’ll never use! Go to his posting of the Columbus drive-in and see if you recognize the lady standing in front of the sign. It’s at the end of that page.
I was at Hetty’s this afternoon and asked again to be sure the following is correct. During WW II she lived upstairs at the corner of Fifth and Pearl Streets. She lived with Mr. and Mrs. Glore, her in-laws, before moving to San Diego to be with her husband.
I don’t have a yahoo or hotmail account so I won’t give it here. Margo has listed her address, so I’ll e-mail her with the information she requested. I may even explain the Jonesville connection between you and Hetty!
Bob, David has my address if you have the need.

Jerry Records, I was so glad to read your posts and get some bio on you. I hope you share a little more, your wife, where you met her, your children. Looks like you and brother Bobby did the Air Force thing ok. I was in about 10 years, but we decided to settle down as the kids were starting to get school age. I’m not sure that was the best decision, but we live with all our decisions, and hopefully get a little smarter as time goes on. I remember your mom as a happy, outgoing lady, your dad as more serious. Seems I remember him always having a cigar stub in his hand. I don’t actually remember him smoking it, but memory takes funny paths as you get some age on. If you wanted to say some about them, it would help me fill in the Fifth Street memories I have been on for nearly a year now. But you do not need to. Do you have any knowledge of Jerry Goetz, who lived next door to you on Union Street? I remember his mom as being a very nice and courteous lady. I do not remember ever seeing his dad. I lost contact with almost everyone when we moved in 1948. I see on one of your posts about your dad’s passing. Is mom gone too? My dad passed away in 1966 and mom in 1976. God bless and draw you close to Him

from Jerry Records...THEIR OLD STOMPING GROUNDS IN JONESVILLE IS STILL OPEN. NOW CALLED "THE BRICK." THEY HAVE GREAT HAMBURGERS AND ONIONS, AND BEER TOO. I HAVE EATEN THERE ONE TIME A FEW AGO. I HAVE TROUBLE GETTING AROUND MUCH, WITH BAD HIPS AND A KNEE THAT NEEDS REPLACED. I'M PATHETIC. LOL SINCE DAD DIED I DON'T GET TO COLUMBUS MUCH. DOUBT IF I GO TO THE 50TH NEXT YEAR. EVEN THOUGH I LOVE ALL MY OLD CLASSMATES. I WISH THEM ALL GOOD HEALTH AND HAPINESS. TAKE CARE. BE WELL, ALL.JERRy ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Jerry, this is Margo. Even though you were not an "official member" of our class I would like to invite you and Bob Lane to our 50th in August this year. I have not heard from Janet and Stan Owen yet whether Scho has plans to come. Will call her tommorrow to wish Janet "Happy Birthday" and will find out then.
I mentioned to Ted Burton in Church Choir this morning that I had been talking to both of you and his face just lit up! He said he had great times with both of you. Jerry, You are not the only one who has difficulty getting around. I have some problems also, and use a cane mostly in the winter time. Thank the good Lord, warm weather is now here, and I can navigate much more easily and hopefully put my cane away until next winter.
Sue Stonecipher Whitehorn's birthday is the 12th so will be able to fill her in when I call her in CA. I have always wanted to drive out to the Brick for a cheeseburger but just keep putting it off. BTW Musillami's is still open in Garden City, also. I stop for a treat when I go out to Daughtery Cemetery or to the 4H Fair Grounds. Bill used to take me there when we were dating. Good memories !!
Must close for now, and answer some personal messages. Take care all my "new" located friends.. Margo from the "5th st. Gang"

Margo, You mentioned Ted Burton in one of your posts. Maybe the old memory chip isn't gone entire, I remember Ted. Hope he pipes in on this message board. Love to hear from him. I have wondered when some of the 52 class is going to join in. Someone asked you if I was related to another Bob Lane. As far as I know we are not related unless they go back to Beautiful Kentucky, then all bets are off. Anything is possible then. And what is the Brick? Someone clue me in. Thaaaatss all for now folks. Have a blessed day in the Lord. Bob Lane

Bob, I have encouraged all my email contacts from our CHS Class of '55 to add some meories to these boards. However, most of them do not spend much time on the computer. ( present party excluded) Will hope to copy some messages and take to our Lunch Bunch gathering which will be this Sat the 16th at Grindstones. Hopefully, I can get a response then, and we may have some more activity then.
Dick Clark Hoehn was the one who asked if you were a relative to another Bob Lane he knew. He lives in Il with his wife Mar, and hopefully will be coming to the Reunion in August.
Will see Ted Burton again at Choir Practice on Wed. nite. any messages for him I can pass along? Margo from " The 5th street Bunch"

" The Brick" A restaurant (?) located in Jonesville that is famous for it's cheesburgers. I understand it is " extremely rustic" and if you can't handle cigarette smoke, and beer bottles, don't bother to go. Anyone care to add to this description?

Thanks Margo, I would not feel at home at the Brick. My dad died at age 54, double stroak from smoking most of his life. Mom died from cancer, age 60, lived with smokers all her life, second hand smoke. I know if dad had known what we know now about tobacco he would have quit in a minute. Tell Ted to "join up, get online, and let us know about his life" God is Love, Bob Lane
PS. where do you and Ted B. attend church? Just wondering. BL

Thanks, Bob, for your reply.
I have not been to the "Brick" in Jonesville for quite a while, and I do not know if it has changed since then. That's why I left an open message for someone to comment. I am the same way about cigarette smokeWill have to call and see if their policy has changed. Some of the restaurants in Columbus have gone to "No Smoking " status and it opens up more possiblilities for me.
I did stop at the "Ye Olde Fish House" on 17th street and got a fish sandwich. Delicious !! They were busy so got mine to go. Will go back another day for more information. I can share this .. Offical name is "The Olde Fish House" It is open from 10:00 a.m ~ 3p.m. and the address is 2024 17th Street across from the Arvin plant and about 3 blocks West of the Hospital.
As for Ted Burton he does not spend much time on the computer, but will talk to him Wed. nite at Choir Practice. We both are members of First Baptist Church at 3300 Fairlawn Dr.
We lost another member of the CHS Class of '55 today. I received word that Carolyn Wade Abbott passed away early this morning. I Got to visit her several yrs, along with Myrna Stewart Rynearson, and Betty Emerick Josey. Also learned that our class has lost Lloyd Ford, Mary Lou Taylor Albright and Richard D. White.
More later from Margo "from the 5th street Bunch"

Margo, I went to Sunday school at the old First Bap. on Franklin. All 3 of my kids took piano lessons from a lady at the new church in the 70's, can't remember her name now, but was a great lady. Bob

In response to Bob Lane,
Do you remember who your Sunday School teacher was at First Baptist Church? We started with Florence Ponsler in our pre-teen years. Then we had Mr. Gene Finchum for all of our High School Years. He had a daughter, Sandra, ( in Class of '55) and a younger son, Myrom. He and his wife, Ila were wonderful Role Models for us as growing teens. His favorite introductory phrase, I will always remember was " My name is Gene Finchum, I presume you know yours? " He, Ila, and Myrom, have all passed on, but Sandi, who married Jack Larrison, is living in Newburgh, In. Surely hope they are planning on coming to the 50th Class Reunion in August. Have not seen Sandi since her mother passed away. Margo

Concerning the Crump Theatre..where we all went to see movies during the 50's.... ;D
We have been discussing the Crump in another folder and I thought I might copy it here, as this file seems to ATTRACT more readers.
The Lord works in mysterious ways, sometimes...
When I attended First Baptist Church this morning, I learned the CRUMP Theatre will be open this coming Thursday, May 5th at noon for the National Day of Prayer Service. This is the first time it has been used this way.
This event is FREE and open to anyone. So, if you care to revive old memories, and join me in prayers for our Active Duty Military, please join me there that day at NOON.
Second,
The next Concert at the Crump, will be on Mother's Day , May 8th at 2:00 p.m. COST IS $5.00 . Music provided by Gary Pugh, and friends..including DALE SECHREST, Terry and Danny Clark. Classic Country, Blues, and Rock Music will be played. ( To Benefit the Crump Theatre.) What a gift for MOM who probably spent her childhood attending the Crump. Dave, Is Dale one of your relatives Surely must be, not a common name.
I urge anyone that's interested to attend either or both events !! Will find out more from Rovene Monday. If you are coming let me know, and I will try to chat with you before or after. I'll be at both events as far as I know now. I will definitely attend the National Day of Prayer Service , to pray for SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN, and for our VETERANS. Come and join me,please. Hi Margo, and I just had a flash thought. Some weeks ago now, I talked with Donna Hollenbeck Burbrink and she mentioned Kay Keesling. If by chance you had an email address for Kay, I would bet that she would love to know about David's site, and the message boards.

Yes, I know Kay (Keesling) O 'Sullivan would definitely enjoy this site. However, she is now living in Brownstown, and does not have Computer access. She is definitely planning on coming to the Reunion, and has her transportation all set for that day. She is really looking forward to it. I know Betty Emerick Josey is coming up from Tampa, and is staying with a classmate here in Columbus. She can hardly wait until August gets here.
If you wish more information, please email me privately. Thanks for thinking of her !! I'm sure she would be pleased that you remembered her. Blessings, Margo

Yes, there is still smoking and unless you can manage to go when it is not too busy, you will always find smokers.( Hey even the waitress has a cigarette laying in an ashtray at all times.) It is a great place to get "the best burger in town" in our opinion but it is really hard to take the smoke as well. I agree and wish all restaurants would go to "no smoking" but The Brick is a neighborhood tavern so do not think this situation will ever change. Babs
