Dear Babs (?) this is Margo McCalip Hughey
I do appreciate your update on the Brick.!! I had doubted if they changed their smoking policy, and I am so glad you confimed it! Guess I will have to order my burger to go. They also had great onion rings ! Have you been there lately, to know if it the same recipe?
I have not been in 4 yrs. Our family ( The Hughey girls) were raised at 450 South in the two story white farm house that sets right across from the old Walesboro airport. We lived there for over 35 + years. The daughters wished me to move into town after Bill passed away. I now live in Columbus just off 17th Street on Cottage Ave. Blessings, Margo

Just got back from our Class OF '55 Lunch Bunch at Grindstone Charlie's , located on Central Ave, held in the Hospitality Room. We meet once a month on the third Saturday. Always a different group each month ,as not every body can make it. Last month we had 20 classmates, this month we had 11. Our group has over 30 members now, and most of them live in the Columbus area.
If ANY READERS are a class member, we would love to have you join us. Our next Lunch will be Sat June 18th at 11:30 a.m. in the back Hospitality room . Mark it on your calendar now, so you won't forget!
Please email me privately, and let me know if you are a first timer, so we can save a spot for you. We order from the menu, and it is "Dutch Treat ".
We had two new ones join us today. Lora Ayers, ( Virgina Davis's Daughter) came with pictures of her mother and her classmates from her elementary school. Just a delightful young lady !! Virgina passed away in '62 when Lora was 2 yrs old, so she has no information on her mother's high school years. She fit right in and we enjoyed talking with her. Hoping she will return next month ,also. If you wish her email addfress let me know privately, and I will get you in contact with her. Margie Lane Wilson has moved into Presidential Park. She brought her neighbor, Sharon Stott with her as a guest. Margie is doing well, as she recovers from Max's passing. Sharon says she keeps her busy yard saling! Sharon is also very delightful! She knew Libby Quick and her husband(deceased) Charles was in the CHS '58 class ,so we looked his picture up . It was good to see the girls again, and chatabout waht is going on in each other lives. We sang Happy Birthday to RuthAnn Schwartzkopf Stam as her birthdate is the 14th of this month along with Sally Swope Flint.
Some of us will be at the "Salute Concert" 7:00 p.m. Friday night at the Veteran's Memorial by the Court House . I always have a bunch of Red,white, and blue balloons to mark our spot. Please let me know if you're coming, and I'll try to save a chair for you!
Today, MAY 21ST is ARMED FORCES DAY!! Say a prayer for our Active Duty Military, wherever they may be, for their safety, and comfort. If you know a Veteran, be sure to thank him for his/her service to this Wonderful Country of Ours !!
Blessings, Margo

Hi Margo,
We went to The Brick not too long ago. My husband loves to go to auctions so usually if we go to Jonesville to one, we stop and eat at The Brick. Nothing has changed that I know of. In fact not too long ago when we were in there a group of motorcyclists stopped in and I have never seen so much smoke. You could've cut it with a knife.
Never tried the onion rings; usually just enjoy their burgers so much and they fill me up.

I have gone to several of Mike's Auctions in Jonesville. They have a wonderful family. I just could not get to this one ,as we had our Class Lunch Bunch the same day. Perhaps the next time Mike has one in Jonesville, we could meet at The Brick and get a burger to go!
Had a Fantastic Lunch Bunch gathering this Saturday! We have over 30 local Class members who attend. However, not all of them make it every month so we never know who will show up. Great bunch of girls, and wonderful chat sessions. We sang Happy Birthday to Ruthann Schwartzkopf Stam this time, as her's was the 14th. Over and out... who's next ?? Margo

Hi to all, and especially Margo. As I have been going through photos, I ran across one of "Sonny" Eugene Main. I told that "CA Chapter" of his life in some other thread. This is a photo, taken at Knott's Berry Farm, CA, probably in about 1956, back when it was FREE to go there, and often many of us did. Thought you might like to have access to it for the reunion. L-R Nancy Stevens, Sonny Main, and a CA friend of mine. Am really hating that I will miss the reunion. Nanc

Dear Nanc,
THANK YOU SO ,MUCH!! I had to send it to my friend to make a copy of, as I can't do that.. I definitely will take it to the Reunion!! I'm so sorry you will have to miss it.
Do you have an excat date of Gene's death? Iwent back and read your article ,and could not find a date listed. It must have been while I was in Florida during the late 50's early 60's as I did not know until I moved back to Columbus. Any other pics you care to share, I wil ask Janet to print for me. Blessings, Margo '55

Hi again, and I did check the Bartholomew Archives before I posted the photo, but couldn't locate a date for Sonny's passing. But you never know, in all this stuff my mom has saved I may find the original newspaper article from out here. Maybe before the end of August, do ya' think? But am thinking probably 1957. Nanc

One of our classmates knows Gene's Uncle.
Hoping I can get it from him, through her. If I do, could you locate the obit in Ca. paper, if we had a date? Thanks, Margo

Hi Margo, and a very special person in Columbus went out to Garland Brook today and took photos of Sonny's burial site. The dates were 1937-1958. I was off by a year, actual dates 12-11-37 to 8-9-58. Thanks goes to a special person for doing the leg work to find the dates for us! Nanc

Dear Nanci, Thank you SO MUCH!! I did not realize he had been brought back to Columbus. I can locate his grave now, through the G.B. Cemetary office on Tuesday.
I don't believe they will be open Monday, as I have some flowers to place there on Memorial Day. Went to 5 graduation parties in the last 2 days. One more next weekend, [Judy Arbuckle's granddaughter] Jessica Arbuckle, Keith's oldest daughter. I surely miss Judy at this time of year. But know she is looking down from Heaven, on Jessica. She has matured into quite a young lady, and I know Judy is proud of her. Some one else care to take up from here? Margo Class of 55

The picture of Sonny Main that Nanc posted is just exactly the picture that was in my minds eye. It is sure strange how some people stay with us.
What a tragedy that he died so young.
Thanks for the picture Nanc and especially thanks to your mom for saving all these items.

This is Margo checking back in after being gone for over a month.
I just wish to say Thank you to all on these message boards for your prayers, Compassion, Support, and emails during my sister, Sheila White's failing health conditions this past month. Sheila went home to the Lord on July 6th, in Georgetown,In at her daughter's home, with her son Tim Anderson, and myself by her bedside. YOUR kindness will always be remembered, and you will never know how much they meant to me. Thanks be to God who gives us the Victory over death, through Jesus Christ our Lord !! I will be floating in and out until the end of this month, with lots of family events coming up. Once again, I know that Columbus,In is such a wonderful place filled with such special people, whether they live here now, or are former residents. Blessings to all, Margo McCalip Hughey

Hi to all, and from what I am hearing the reunion was a huge success. A friend sent me the articles from the paper which I read with interest. I surely hope that class members will post on the message boards here and tell more about the event. And these message boards are a great place to put 'remember when' stories. Check out the many folders and find a spot to post some of your memories. It is the sharing that makes it so much fun. Hugs to all, Nanc
