Well Bob, thank you...
It was almost 10 years to the day when I first got the idea of doing the Historic Columbus Indiana website. The Christmas present way back in 1997 was one I will always treasure. It was a copy of The Republic's Columbus Indiana: 125 years.
I wonder at this point in time if The Republic had not offered that book if the idea of the website would have ever crossed my mind...
Everything said however, it's because of people such as yourself that have contributed to make both the website and the message board what it is...
Thank You...

This view of The Commons Mall area is looking east from where Jackson Street will be rebuilt. The green in the center is the building that was erected to protect Chaos during the renovation.

Welcome Doug Emig! I think Doug is an long time ago school friend. If you are you will remember these nicknames: "Bugs", Jay, Brad, Steve and Bob. My senior cords which I still have has your name as well as the others mentioned. Also, Jack Hinkle is a member and posts things on the boards. If you are the one you will remember this Log picture: Picture is an advertisement by Bill Dunfee Chevrolet posted in the year book. Bingo Update: My guess was right and he said the passengers in the car were back seat Doug Emig, Mary Lou Gossman, and front seat Brad Ayers and Janet Miszer. Picture was taken around 1958 or 1959 behind the courthouse area. Historical Comment One: The Emig name has been around Columbus since the Mexican and American War of 1846-1848. I have no idea if there is a relationship but the Emig name is among the earlier settlers in the County and Columbus. Historical Comment Two: During the middle 1860s the Emig family jointly owned a Boot & Shoe Store on Washington Street. The business was confirmed during a review of the 1867 business directory. The business was called Dillion & Emig and was one of 8 boot and shoe stores in Columbus at that time period. Very nice picture, Richard. It doesn't look like that frost from a couple of nights ago got them.

Regardless of whether the trees are magnolias or dogwood, the grounds are pretty and it only happens this time of year.
Thanks Rhonda!

Those are magnolias surrounding the church. The 43 dogwood trees are out along Tipton Lane, and the curve of Home Avenue. They were not yet in bloom when last I was over there.

This is a small portion of the 43 dogwood trees around the perimeter of North Christian. The steeple is barely visible in the top center. This is at the main entrance off Tipton Lane.

These are more of the dogwoods as they come around the bend onto Home Avenue.

Personally...I think the dogwood trees downtown at the COB are more beautiful this year than ever!
