Upcoming activity at the Commons on Saturday, November 11th. Why not come on out and take a look at some of the local talent. Regarding the Mobley Barn: I had no idea there was ever anything on that 25th & Cherry Street corner other than Frisch's Big Boy, which only goes to show my age.
It's hard for me to picture that area as farmland, especially in this day!

I created a Cummins Bookstore thread in the Businesses category and announced the opening of Cummins Bookstore under new management.
With all the new projects planned for our downtown area over the next few years, this seems like a grand time to either open, or be an existing business in downtown Columbus Indiana.
Not one, but two new hotels will be a downtown fixture, as well as a parking garage, and I've a feeling we're going to witness history repeating itself. Maybe not on a scale of what downtown Columbus was like in the 1940's through the 60's, but maybe something close.
There's going to be a LOT of controversy over the next few years, such as the location of the "new" Senior Citizen building, but once the dust is cleared, I foresee a vibrant and prosperous downtown area with specialty stores, restaurants, and such.
I'm excited...

There's quite a bit of dissention going on at the moment with the money raised for the new Adult Community Center and its location.
Correct me here if I'm wrong. Millions of dollars were donated by private individuals for the Adult Community Center to be built at Mill Race Park. The spot had been picked out, and everyone was happy.
Well, everyone isn't quite so happy anymore.
Suddenly, the location isn't Mill Race, but the Commons Mall (once it's revamped).
I've heard it rumored that some who donated plan to ask for their money back if the location will be the Commons Mall. 256 people recently signed a petition against this new proposal, and the way the paper played things out, some of those who signed the petition might not have been aware of all the details regarding this change in location.
As I understand things, parking and accessibility are the two concerns expressed by those who gave donations.
Let's see...a hotel...an Adult Community Center...is there going to be any room for places of business??
It will be interesting to watch and see how this all plays out!

Terrific pictures again, Bob. Thanks for posting them.
Do you have a magic camera that sneaks back to Columbus and snaps all these great shots? :-)

Sereno Lovelace was our school bus driver when we lived out on the Rocky Ford Farm. He was a real character but he did keep the kids in line, let me tell you.
Thanks for the pictures of the bricks in downtown Columbus, Richard.

Richard, speaking of those brick sidewalks on Washington Street...I wasn't here when that project happened. I take it that, for those residents that bought the bricks (didn't they cost somewhere around $25?), the city provided a map of sorts to let them know where their brick was located. Is that true?

I was driving on Central Avenue the other day. I passed a sign that said “Largest Tenderloin in Town.” On Thursday my wife was coming home from a Doctors appointment and got two of these sandwiches to bring home. I measured it and from the bottom left corner to the top right the tape showed 10 ½ inches! See the picture below.

Okay Richard, Where on Central did you find that huge tenderloin? I suppose you left off the name of the restaurant on purpose! The size of that "monster" you could have three sandwiches for sure. ;D
We've gone out to the Marathon station on 46 in GnawBone and they make similar tenderloin sandwiches. Most of the time, I save about half of mine or else we split a sandwich.
Having said all of this, I really must admit that we just normally purchase a whole loin, have about 1/3 of it cut for a roast and the remaining portion cut into sandwich size and tenderized. So we have tenderloins at home whenever we feel the urge.
Great picture!
