Sheesh! I don't know how I forgot to add this school to the list, as I attended school at Wayne Township from the 6th to the 8th grade! Wayne Township School was located on 31-A (now 11), and right at the sharp "S-turn." I don't know what year the school was demolished. Today, the area is a playground! Here are some pics of the school, faculty, and students from 1966!

Dave, you have no idea how many times I've wished I could find my old year books from Wayne. Bless you !!! Man, the memories come rushing back so thick I have to brush them from my face. After Wayne, I just blended in with the crowd and lost contact with many of those pictured here. I can still hear coach pulling me aside and saying Will, do you hear the one about..... and I can still picture Mrs. Talley carrying that ruler around and whacking people.... No doubt about it, Wayne was the Greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill--remember the music teacher we had at Wayne? For the life of me, I cannot think of her name!
Boy...remember Doug Doty, Marshall Denny, yourself, and Rusty Schnmidt getting up in front of the class and lip-synching to Beatles songs?
What a riot!

My favorite teachers at Wayne were Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Talley.
After we all "graduated" from the 8th grade, mom and dad moved from the farm at Rosstown to the northeast corner of 16th and Lafayette. In the 9th grade, I got a job as a paperboy, delivering the Courier Journal. Mrs. Talley lived on Franklin St., and was one of my customers. Every time I collected for the paper from her, she'd quiz me about my school work.
She was a wonderful lady...
And Mr. Thompson was great, too. Didn't we have him for Science? He was also our track coach. I ran track in the 8th grade, along with youself, Bob Brown, Doug Doty, and others. Bob Brown set a school record that year, and myself, Bob Brown, and two other guys I can't remember, set a school record for the 880 relay. Maybe you were in there with us? I can't remember at the moment.
I wonder how long our record held???

I certainly enjoyed teaching at Wayne. I miss all of the students--that I can remember--and the faculty. Larry Joslin, Jim Thompson, and I had great times together.

thomas@innovative-educators.com [/size] Tom, I had Mr. Joslin in the 6th grade. He always liked to nickname his students (I'll not share what he called me!). He was a funny guy and made learning a lot of fun.
Mr. Thompson was also a great teacher. If I recall, he also coached basketball, baseball and track, plus taught science, and didn't he also teach agriculture? Mr. Hartley was my "home room" teacher. Each class switched rooms for different subjects. Mrs. Talley and Mr. Thompson's classrooms were on the south side of the building in the picture. Mr. Hartley's classroom was on the north side (if I have my directions right?!). The lunchroom was in the gym.

Dave, I'm sorry it has taken this long to come back and read the boards. Yes, I remember the music teacher. Like you, I can picture her perfectly, but her name escapes me. Do you remember Danny Edwards bringing in his guitar and singing for us... I still can't help but picture him everytime I hear "Where oh where can my baby be... " As for the 880 relay team, yep, it was you, Doug, Bob and myself. I can still see Bob running the last leg like it was a sprint.... I recall once when we ran against Taylorsville, and one of my competitors in the 220 had his name on his backside... I can still here Mr. Thompson laughing as I came in second behind him, because I couldn't get past reading his name as he ran.... Thanks to Mr. Thompson, every sport we played was really enjoyable...

Sorry I haven't been around much as of late. I'm just getting over a terrible bout with the flu and it's had me down for a good month. My doctor said that's about the going rate with this particular strain of virus. Anyway, one of my New Year Resolutions was to get better organized. I started that project just a few days ago, but have made some rather remarkable success! I've been throwing away a lot of things I just don't need to hold on to, plus going through old newspaper articles and putting them in an organizer. While doing so, I ran across this item from 1966. Here's a newspaper clipping from The Evening Republican (The Republic), dated May 31, 1966: Bob Brown, who is featured in the picture, was probably the best runner on our 1966 track team. Our 880 Yard Relay from this track meet set a new school record and I wonder if any team beat it before the school finally closed up... ahhh...the good ole days...

Thanks for uploading those precious memories. I attended from the 2nd grade until the 8th, and was part of the last 8th grade class. I'm shown in Mr Selke's class here, and remember his rythm band. Good memories...
