My Dad lived in Death Valley. His name was James "Doc" Johnson. My Grandparents were Luther and Nellie Johnson. He had plenty of stories to tell about Death Valley. Even though my Dad grew up poor he never complained. He had good memories about that place.

Thank you. Sadly to say both my Dad and Aunt Trish have both past away. I miss them both and all the great stories they had.

Welcome, abingham! Please excuse me for replying so late to your posts, but if you can share any of your dad's stories here, that would be wonderful!
Speaking of Death Valley...were there any street names associated with the place? How did the residents get their mail?

The following from 1959, is in the Looking Back feature in today’s edition of The Republic newspaper.Buryl McFadden, owner of the property known as Death Valley, reported that two houses in the complex had been demolished. Rent on the remaining eight houses in the area range from $10.00 to $12.00 per month. The area is west of the railroad tracks. I wondered, when I started reading this thread, if anyone knew (or was willing to say) who the "gentleman" was who owned Death Valley. How anyone could have charged those people $12 or $10 or $5 or 50 cents for rent and still have had a clear conscience is beyond me.
