When the school opened, all it had was "stink" water, a pumping station was added next to the Swifty station (the small metal building" just west of the station. The well and was sold to the school by Joe Damn for $1. the water was pumped to the school from that location.

In April 2013, Nick Speth from the Bartholomew County History Center sent me a copy of an email message from Jon Myers, dated June 5, 2003. It said, "Booth-Setser Elementary School was opened in 1953 to relieve 'serious overcrowding.' A four acre tract of land was donated by Mrs. Earl Booth and Charles M. Setser and the school was built on the site of the former Wright School about 2 1/2 miles west of downtown Columbus, Indiana at a cost of $183,500. Local citizens contributed $32,000 for the furnishings of the prefabricated steel structure erected by the Columbus township taxpayers prior to merger with the Columbus city school system and later merger into the present Bartholomew Consolidated Schools Corporation. The school was closed in May, 1976 due to declining enrollments. The Booth-Setser mascot was the Tigers." About the donors: Earl Booth was the name on a patent for an automobile radio control unit manufactured by Noblitt-Sparks, the forerunner of the late Arvin Industries. Here's a photograph of the Arvin managers from 1946: Mr. Booth is second from the left in the first row. "Arvin" was a brand name owned by the Noblitt-Sparks automobile components company, which had been formed in Indianapolis in 1919. The company got the name "Arvin" from the inventor of a car heater that it had bought, and they used it as their brand name because they thought it presented a good image. Q. G. Noblitt was from Columbus and he took the company there from Indianapolis in 1931 after buying out his partners. It was renamed Arvin Industries in 1950, at which time its main site was at 17th and Central. Arvin seems to have been known best for its radios, Mr. Booth's specialty. It was acquired by Meritor in 2000, which in 2004 sold the 17th and Central manufacturing site, probably to the Columbus Components Group LLC, another auto components manufacturer that is in the site now. Charles M. Setser (wife: Emma) seems to have been born in 1877 and was a prominent Columbus banker. He was one of the founding members, along with Herman B Wells, of the Indiana Commission for Financial Institutions, created in 1933 to help cure the financial sector meltdown that had reached a head at that time in Indiana as well as everywhere else in the country. Mr. Setser was also on the Butler University Board of Directors.
