McDowall School opened its doors in the 1960's, and was considered a unique design in school architecture.
This elementary school came after State Street and before Fodrea

I went to McDowell Elementary School in the first, second and third grades in the 60's. I had Mrs. Newbright, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Hanner, then they changed school districts and was transferred to Clifty School. Coincidentally, I had the spouse of Mrs. Hanner at Clifty.

First, welcome to the boards and your knowledge will be helpful on many subjects presented here throughout the year. This morning in the Republic Newspaper a very nice article was written by Harry McCawley about the "detective work" this board does at times. It further paid respect to many members and their research efforts. So, with your help and posting you too can provide insights to things that we aren't aware of, and even start new subjects of interest.
You mentioned that you transferred to Clifty School from McDowall School and had the spouse of Mrs. Hanner there. Well, I suspect you are talking about Mr. Chester Hanner. I didn't have him as a teacher but remember he was such a nice and gentle man. For some reason I keep thinking he also taught music at times, but not sure on that thought. Anyway, welcome again and the old Clifty Wildcats slogan keeps on roaring in minds of the past.

I attended McDowell in kindergarten and first grade. This would be approx '60 & '61 give or take a year. The neighbor girl and I walked from almost State Street. (amazing as we wouldn't even consider allowing first-graders to do that today) The teachers were Mrs. Snyder, and Mrs. Troyer. We moved to Wayne Township when in the 2nd grade, and I didn't get to see my old classmates until Highschool. As luck would have it, our class didn't get split to East those years.

Here is a school picture from McDowell Elementary School, 1964-1965 school year. Teacher was Mrs. Hanner, third grade. If anyone can identify the kids, that would be great!
