David and Joy,I believe that the unknown in the first photo, between James K. Dickey and Orville Snyder, is my older brother, Jack Foist. I am going to show this to him when I see him and try to confirm this.

Here are just a few memories of our old neighborhood when we moved in to Columbus from Tellman camp.We moved to the Southeast corner of 14th and Union Street, where my Father started his Auto repair Garage, known as Casey's Auto Service.Across the street to the west was the Walls family, and Dan Walls also operated a Auto repair garage.Across 14th street to the north was the Staley manufacturing company, which later became part of Arvin, and later yet,the Columbus Wholesale Grocery. On the Northwest corner was the Hoosier Metal Products owned by Breevort Baker.Their was a railroad track just to the north of 14th at that time,I believe it was the New York Central line that went to Greensburg. In the Mid Fifties my Father and My cousin Leon, who worked for my father, built a new and larger garage, with the help of Mitch Wilbur, who was a brick mason, and laid the cement blocks. The building is still there and I don't know who owns it now.The neighborhood has changed considerably today,as many of the houses and businesses in the area have been torn down.I will have more later when I have more time to think about the things that have changed .

Hi Jack,I also was a member of the E.U.B. Church from 1948 when we moved to the neighborhood, until it moved to the Sandyhook site.My Wife and I were married at Sandyhook in 1973 by Reverend Calvin Brandenburg.I also remember Reverend Simmerman as the minister when I first started there. Also remember Mrs. Hillycord as my first Sunday School teacher. Also Irwin Miller, and John Sublette were my teachers. Thanks for posting this info on the site.

I played on the Merchants Basketball team from 1957 through 1959.We played mostly College Freshman teams, and other teams from the area towns. Also played in some AAU tournaments. Each player had a different local merchants name on their uniform. For more info on the teams over the years you should talk to Ray Minor,as he was the team manager for several years.Several of the men that I played with are now deceased.Myself and Roy Shofner were the two youngest members of the team in the late 50's.I am going to see if I can find more info in the future,of the earlier team members.I can think of most that were on the team when I was.
