I recall one bad tornado that hit somewhere around Rosstown around 1965. It did an incredible amount of damage throughout that area. I ran across the Evening Republican write-up about it, and it's around here somewhere.

"Tornado Tears Up Lover's Lane Area Near Cemetery by 10th Street and McClure Road"
Sometime between 1955 and 1958 it seems a very destructive tornado funneled through the houses near Lover's Lane area (now renamed to another street or road today). I was a very young boy and I was walking across a field adjacent to McClure Road and 13th Street. The field was farmed during those days for mostly corn, wheat, hay and soybeans in rotation if I recall properly here.
I was walking in a plowed field with my Daisy BB Gun and all of sudden this weather funnel was tearing up houses and debris was flying throughout the area. I hit the ground with my gun and lay on the ground motionless, until I heard no more sounds and no visual funnel. The tornado didn't come across in my direction, but turned and traveled down toward US 31; not far from Clifty bridge. It must have stopped before reaching that area.
I was very happy it didn't continue to our home on 15th Street. However, I really felt bad I recall because many people lost their homes near that area and many had horrible damages. I don't recall the injuries or if there were any deaths. I can't recall the year for sure but maybe someone on the broad here will recall the year.

Tornado Prone Columbus Indiana
Columbus-area historical tornado activity is slightly above Indiana state average. It is 148% greater than the overall U.S. average.
On 4/3/1974, a category 4 (max. wind speeds 207-260 mph) tornado 14.4 miles away from the Columbus city center killed 4 people and injured 17 people and caused between $5,000,000 and $50,000,000 in damages.
On 6/2/1990, a category 4 tornado 15.0 miles away from the city center injured 9 people and caused between $500,000 and $5,000,000 in damages
