I THINK THE THREE WINDOW JUST PAST THE SUPER STORE AND BEFORE THE D X STATION WAS THE PENTZER PRINT SHOP Super A & P Grocery Store 1940s and 1950sLocated Near 9th Street and Washington StreetColumbus, Indiana Notice two taxi cabs picking up customers leaving the Super Market. Lots of old 1940s vehicles. The DX gasoline station was behind the store on the corner with a diamond shaped sign that is shown in the picture. Our family dentist Dr. Seal was down the first street past the DX on the same side the DX station was on. I MADE A COMMENT THE OTHER DAY ABOUT SEEING CARS DRIVING TOWARDS THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH ON FIFTH STREET AT SOME TIME AFTER 1950 THAT STREET WAS ONE WAY GOING WEST. OBVIOUSLY AT THIS TIME IT WAS A TWO WAY STREET. 5th Street & Franklin Street 1949 and 1950Columbus, Indiana Comment: Old City Hall and the First Christian Church. The church was built in 1942 and City Hall 1895. Look at the 1940 designs of automobiles and how small the trees are near the church. CHECK OUT THAT TV SET WE GOT OUR FIRST TV WITH A SCREEN LIKE THAT ONLY OURS WAS A BIG CONSOLE TYPE I THINK THAT WAS DESCRIBES AS A 12 INCH SCREEN MADE BY ARVINS. Vyron Galbraith and his family: wife Elizabeth and daughters Nedra and Janet (the youngest one). They lived at 2003 Central and Vyron was a Toolmaker at Noblitt-sparks (Arvin). They were photographed all over town, working, shopping and at home. We have heard from daughter Janet who still lives in Columbus and she remembered the photoshoot and remembers her Dad being very proud of the pictures even though they were never published. They sure made a perfect 50's family. Check out that tiny 1950 TV, bet it was an Arvin brand! Ricky......I like how you posted this without repeating the whole picture again. I also have found if I am going to talk about a previous picture someone posted, then I try to make the picture smaller and then talk about it. I like your idea here.......Bob

I believe these children are at First Christian church. Anyone you know? Ricky, I would say yes, to being First Christian Church, as I have not seen any photos in this LIFE collection, at another church in town. Nanc

Now What The Heck Is This? Question: Could this be related to one of the milk companies? Maybe, a milk homogenizer of earlier days? Help!!!!.......if anyone knows. We sure don't know what it is nor the man shown. Stay 'tuned.' I think I found another photo of the gray haired gentleman that may help in IDing, and likely NOT having to do with 'milk.' J. Irwin Miller and his wife Xenia along with 2 of their 3 daughters Margaret, Catherine and Elizabeth. Notice the chair he is setting in. It's called a "Womb" chair, a famous design in 1948 by Eero Saarinen who would soon design the Irwin-Union bank. In about 1957 the family would move into the house nearby designed by Eero Saarinen.
