This was brought up on the CHS Facebook page. I never realized that there was a Columbus Merchant basketball team!
Who remembers them?

I played on the Merchants Basketball team from 1957 through 1959.We played mostly College Freshman teams,and other teams from the area towns.Also played in some AAU tournaments.Each player had a different local merchants name on their uniform.For more info on the teams over the years you should talk to Ray Minor,as he was the team manager for several years.Several of the men that I played with are now deceased.Myself and Roy Shofner were the two youngest members of the team in the late 50's.I am going to see if I can find more info in the future,of the earlier team members.I can think of most that were on the team when I was.

Dave,I don't have pictures of the Merchants team,but I think Ray Minor might have.I will try to contact him and find out.I also will try to find out if any of my teamates have any.

I am still trying to find info on the Merchants Basketball team,and would appreciate hearing from anyone that knows anyone that played on the teams. Some of the members when I was playing were,Ray Minor ,Jewell Shoultz,Bob Legan,Bill Buchanan,Ed Stillinger,and Dale Gabbard.
