Personally, I always so love the postcards that George regularly puts on the boards. Was watching 'Antiques Roadshow' and someone had an artist's conception of an area done prior to more accurate aerial views that are done today. I quickly reflected back to the recent Reeves Pulley postcard that George had shared. A rendering done way prior to my time, as no homes nor streets existed to the north of the building. Card is postmark Aug. 10,1917. In this artist's conception, it would appear that 7th Street was totally FLAT, not even a ripple in the street. In reality, a drive down 7th Street, and indeed, there is an ever so slight 'a hill, shall we say,' about midway of the building. As a kid, during the winter, when the streets were slick and icy, totally being an irresponsible driver, my dad would do a 'donut' on that slight incline. What a thrill, and a scare as we slid on the ice, with all the giggles and screams that only a girl could manage......... ;D In a tad closer look at this postcard, note the grass area, about midway of the building, it almost looks like the artist was indicating a little hill, NOW, do you suppose? ? Now this is NOT much of a 'hill,' but gosh, on the walk to and from Wilson Jr. High, it seemed like that was the most difficult part of the trip!!!! Ah, through the eyes of a kid. Nanc

When I Moved To A Southern State Many Years Ago This Story Sticks With Me TodayWhen I married a wonderful Southern lady, her family and many friends over the past four decades have always said to me: "Bob you don't sound like you are from the South." [/i] Of course I had to reply and still do to this day this: "Well, I am from the South, I was born in Southern Indiana." Of course I am referring to Columbus Indiana of course. They always get a good laugh when I say the Southern Indiana routine. Enjoy my Southern Indiana postcard "ya ah."[/color][/b] Bob

No. 1 fire house on 5th St. next to old City Hall. The fire house was built in 1896 and was open until 1941, being replaced at that time by the new Central Fire Station on Washington St. This card is about 1910. card courtesy of Bob Records

The Two Most Unique Postcards & Trade Cards Found RecentlyColumbus IndianaThere are many Columbus and Bartholomew County unique cards presented in this web site. My opinion is that the very hard to find and most unique cards of recent months are the two cards below. They being the 1910 Fire House Postcard and the 1880s Cerealine Indian Lady Trade Card. These two cards George, I and most posters and readers have never seen these cards before on display, in books or for sale. Thanks George for all your hard work finding all these unique and interesting cards. Enjoy these fantastic cards of Columbus history. Fire House Cerealine

Walgreens is at this location today. I received this from one of the Bulldog Stars of a few years ago. "THE BULLDOG'S SOMETIMES STAYED AT THIS MOTEL DURING THE SECTIONAL/REGIONAL GAMES. THE BREAK BETWEEN AFTERNOON AND EVENING GAMES. GOT RUBDOWNS AND REST. STILL WAS ALWAYS TIRED FOR EVENING GAME."

The postcard is postmark 1909 and in poor condition with a corner missing. The location on Franklin St. appears to be the 1200 and 1300 block, anyone else see it different?.
