Someone asked for photos to be posted. I don't know which "Subject" it was under, so I've started a new one. This is a photo I took about 2 years ago. Since then, the concrete railing, just above the two entry pillars, has begun to collapse and has fallen backwards onto the entry roof.

Thanks so much Rhonda for posting the pics of Central School! Brings back some great memories. Too bad it has been slated for demolition!

Rhonda, I'm glad you started this Thread, and thanks so much for posting your pictures of Central. One of my favorite pictures of Central was in the 1928 yearbook. I've not run across one quite like it. I share it here with all of you...

Sad news. I was by Central School today and they have torn off the pillar/railing above the main entry way. Guess they made good use of spring break to tear it off while no kids were around. I'm sure they determined that it was "unsafe". If you haven't gotten your snapshots of the ol' school, it's almost too late!

That hurts to see that missing even though the building is coming down anyway. Another landmark that will soon be gone is the old green truss bridge on 31N near Washington St. As soon as they open the first half to traffic they will be bringing it down. Not a beautiful bridge perhaps but a classic old style that is disappearing everywhere. It looks like something I could have built with my brothers hand-me-down Erector set! Lesson to myself and others is that we need to all be documenting those old and maybe not so old buildings and landmarks that we sort of take for granted until they disappear one day without warning. All those unique old stores and houses that suddenly disappear only to be replaced by buildings that corporate America is duplicating in every town in the land.

Wilson Building today. Located on Sycamore Street between 6th & 7th on the west side. It must have been a Junior High School as above the front door is engraved Junior High School.

The Industrial Building today. This building is on 6th Street and was home to all of the shop classes.

Great photos, Richard, and yes, it was a junior high. There is that 'service alley,' and the bottom windows there toward the front of the building along that alley, were the choir room. Choir practiced at lunch time, and the fellows would sit on that window ledge!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of us were easily distracted from the musical task at hand. ;D And yes, to those steps going in, that was the front entrance, and the steps were 'wretched' if there was ice on the front edge. Voice of experience here, as I reached for the door, one fine winter day, I slipped on the ice, and my face just 'skated' down the 'then' wooden doors. Not very attractive, for sure!!!!!!!!!! I would say the lower windows on the right of the main door were the 'adjustment class room,' and the ones on the left of the door perhaps housed Mr. Tom Thayer's class, think I had him for English. Great Picture at night of our dear ALMA MATER - - CHS ...Dave !
I had not seen that one before. I have some also I hopefully plan to bring Saturday that Cara Rathsman Jeffries took for me. They are fantastic also. Many should remember her father Mr. Rathsman who was a great professional photographer during the 50's. For the life of me I can't remember his first name even though I can see his face clearly.

Just a thought...... I know the PAN statue is stored somewhere in the Columbus Education building or bus garage. Sure would be great to have it at the Get Together.

I, too, went recently to the old high school building and took many photos. On June 28th, in the morning, I walked completely around the buildings and took photos of as many of the wonderful architectural details as I could.......knowing that the building will soon be gone. I'll work on posting some today for all to view.
