The Old Columbus High School (CHS) Is Gone But "Pan" Lives OnRemember "Pan" in front of the school? Well, here are "Pan" pictures from years 2010, and 1928. Ricky Berkey said in a previous post: "The beloved sculpture that many people call "Pan", actually entitled "Bird Boy" by sculptor Myra Reynolds Richards has finally been installed in a special place inside the new Central Middle School (it is on the second level near the entrance to the "Grey Box" theater space. "Comment: It was restored by Rust-Unger Monuments of Columbus Indiana.

Columbus High School (CHS) Industrial Complex 1950s & Earlier/LaterBuilding Razed and Near Pearl StreetColumbus, Indiana Brief: Many students in the early years learned trades and skills, to work in woodwork, steel, and other things. They may have learned trades to work at Cummins, Reeves Pulley, COSCO, Arvins Industries, and other companies because of the knowledge gained at the CHS industrial complex. Is this a lost art or teaching tool today? The CHS Industrial Complex history was instrumental in giving young minds the building blocks to succeed in the future industrial arena. I took some shop but did not go in that direction, but it helped to firm in my mind other things in life that I got exposed too. Source of Picture: Indiana University Library

IT CAUGHT MY EYE THAT THE ENTRYWAY ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE GYM HAD A STAIRWAY UP TO THE GYM FLOOR LEVEL AND IT DOESNT SEEM TO BE THERE I HAVE SEEN PICTURES OF STUDENTS ON THOSE STAIRS AS IT WAS THE ENTRANCE FOR THE PEOPLE AND LED TO THE TICKET SALES AREA I FINALLY FOUND A PICTURE IN THE BARTH CO HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S COLLECTION THIS A SHOT TAKEN AROUND 1958 OF THE ALL STARS BASEBALL TEAM SITTING ON THE LEDGE OF THE STAIRWAY I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS TORN OFF BEFORE THE DEMOLITION OR MAYBE BEFORE THAT. I HAVE SEEN AN OLDER PICTURE THAT LOOKS LIKE THE STAIRWAY WAS NOT A PART OF THE ORIGINAL BUILDING BACK IN THE TWENTIES BTW LEFT TO RIGHT JEFF OWENS, MAX ZEIGLER,BILL MCANELLY,MIKE MOORE,ROGER CALLAHAN, GENE DICKEY, JOE BOVA, ROGER O'NIELL,KEITH HACKER The demolition of the ‘Cracker Barrel’ has also begun. TO FURTHER EXPLAIN MY COMMENT HERE IS A PICTURE OF THE GYM IN 1954 YOU CAN SEE THE STAIRS UP TO THE ENTRANCE MAYBE ITS EASIER TO DEMOLISH IF THE STAIRS WERE REMOVED FIRST

Columbus High School's Bus System Year 19357th Street Near Pearl Street (buses facing East)Columbus, Indiana Comment: The flat top special bus designs, with very old looking front ends. The inside of the bus looks like a person might have to stoop to walk in and out, but not sure. Notice the basketball outdoor goal on the campus. Of course that wasn't there long I image.
