I just finished adding a portion of the 1928 Yearbook to the Historic Columbus Indiana website.
You will find Administrators, Faculty, Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen.
I plan on adding Clubs and Sports in the near future.
This 1928 listing takes a somewhat different turn, as I decided to add the Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen. I now wish I would have done this for all these early CHS Logs.
I hope you enjoy!
PS--thanks to nanc for loaning me this yearbook, and many thanks to Richard for scanning and creating text files of all the student/faculty names! [/size]

It might be a while before I'm back on the Message Board. I have left Richard in charge of things until I return. I know Richard will do an excellent job.
Hope to return soon!

May you gain your strength back as soon as possible Dave. I know we are all praying for you !The task is just too much for one person to oversee and I'm hoping we can divide into committees for the next one. I love to do publicity or arrange entertainment and I hope I am in good health so that I can do more next time. Myself..I know I was exhausted at the end of the day.. and went home for 3 hours to rest in the afternoon. Time for my nap as I still am dealing with breathing problems and stamina each day. STAY INSIDE DURING THIS HEAT WAVE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Blessings and soft hugs ...Margo

I apologize for repeated information about the Records School House, but I had no choice but to transfer all that I had written in the past from other treads within this site. David and Richard established the "Records School" Tread today, under schools. It isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, because I had to redo pictures and placements.
Thanks, for your understanding. Also, a special thanks to David and Richard for establishing the tread for the school.

While going through some things, Richard happened across an article regarding Columbus Indiana in the February, 1965 issue of Indiana Business And Industry magazine. He stopped by yesterday and we discussed where to place this information. We both agreed that it would be a nice addition to the Historic Columbus Indiana website. The article has been added to the website. You can access it from the Welcome Page of the website, or by clicking here: www.historiccolumbusindiana.org/ibiweb/cover.aspBeing only 13 years old in 1965, I wasn't very aware of the changes that Columbus was just beginning to see. By the time the article went to press, Death Valley had been cleaned up and the beginnings of Mill Race Park were taking shape. While the city officials were discussing the redevelopment of the downtown area, no major changes had happened yet. Downtown visitors saw nothing different along Washington, Jackson, Brown, and Lindsay streets. The aerial photo of Columbus depicts what all downtown shoppers were accustomed to seeing. But major changes were just on the horizon... An insert inside the article is from a speech J. Irwin Miller gave at the opening of Otter Creek Golf Course. I firmly believe that its context applies just as much today as when he first spoke the words in 1964. Having the hindsight to read the words at this day and age really pulls together what Columbus officials and residents had in mind for our city at the time. Reading J I's words gave me a sense of pride and understanding. Many thanks to Richard for taking the time to scan the article, and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I...

Thanx so much Richard for the wonderful article and thanx Dave for finding a spot on the website to feature it. What a great snapshot of the community in the mid-sixties! It also gives a historic look at the development of the community up till then as well as a history of the major industries in town. Ditto to Margo's message. The new comments under the picture are as cute as can be and though I never thought much about it, I suppose we all" pilot things" from one place to another. Whether it is involved with housekeeping, yard/garden chores, whatever, I've been known to "pilot" a few times myself. ;-)

Margo & Babs--how right you are! We're all "pilots!" Maybe I'm a Pilot 1st Class, as I'm also a pack-rat. It seems I'm always looking for corners to pile things in!
The rest of the line goes like this..."I finally quit that job in the bakery...I got tired of the dough and went on the loaf!"
Now--can anyone out there identify who said those lines???

"I quit my job in the bakery. I got tired of the dough and went on the loaf." I think it was the Three Stooges, but don't know which one.

Some while back, I was doing some research at the Fullerton (CA) room in our local library. In talking with the librarian in charge, I mentioned this Columbus website, and suggested that 'she check it out.' Was there again a couple of days ago, this time with a 'website business card' in hand, and we talked. Yes, she had 'checked out' this site, and commented that it did, indeed, contain vast amounts of information, and a very valuable collection. She just 'seemed to think that it was an overwhelming undertaking.' She was absolutely astounded that the historic Columbus site was the undertaking of one person. Our David!!!!!! When I went on to mention that the message boards contained so much history with many contributors, she was just amazed. Guess I am trying to say, that everyone that participates here is so contributing to the history of Columbus, and I do believe, that David's and our efforts are serving as a wonderful example of what other towns/cities could be offering. Sure it takes time. It can be done, we are 'the proof in the pudding.' This Columbus website just gets better and better with each passing day, and we are 'way ahead' of most other places. Thanks, David, and all the contributors. What a collection of memories and history we provide. Nanc

Bob, I pasted your posts regarding Ernie's Record Shop in the 1950's Thread, as that's where Gregg brought up the subject.

I am originally from Columbus. I had the privilage of getting to spend three weeks there last summer. It was the first I had seen the new bridge. I always loved the structure of the courthouse. I was talking to my mother the other day. When Bobby Kennedy was on his campaign trial, he stopped by the courthouse. My only recollection of it was: He was standing in the backseat of a vehicle. He was shaking hands. My mother held me up and our hands brushed. Shortly after, he was killed in Los Angelos. DOes anyone remember any details, or have photos of that day?

Vicki, I was on duty at fire station #2 at 27th and Central Ave. when his motorcade coming from the air base went by the station, he was in a new 1964 mustang ford convertible, and waved as he went by. Sad to say, but I was watching TV when he was shot, saw it live,a terrible thing. Sorry I don't have any more information on his stop in Columbus.
Welcome to the website

Welcome Vicki, but I don't remember Bobby Kennedy in Columbus. Now, the future President John F. Kennedy did visit Columbus and the Columbus High School, well before he was elected. He came to our convocation before 1960 and spoke to all the students in the now Columbus North Gym. He was a class act and smooth and definitely a political figure for sure.
Comment: We welcome all your comments and input for our Historical Columbus Net. Thanks again............
