The radius for the Seventh Street curb had been poured. The hardener has been applied in this view.

I’m not sure if this will be parking or a bus lane for the new middle school.

Posted by richard on Jul 2, 2007, 10:55pm I’m thinking that these markings are the manufactures marks. Do you think anyone could find out who made these bricks? ************************** Richard, I am trying to research this also. I managed to find three bricks with I B CO. and an arrow pointing to the left marked on them, similar to your pics. I gave one to my sister, Leanna while she was in town for the class of '57 reunion.
On the net, I did find an Indiana Brick Company ( Corporation) located in Westfield, In. Waiting on a reply if they were the ones who supplied the bricks for the original school. Anyone else have any other information? Grandma Margo

Can anyone enlighten me as to where the main door is for the new school? I have driven around it many times, and can not figure this out.
Also, the bricks did NOT come from Indiana Brick Corporation. The president emailed me this information. Grandma

Margo,
The main entrance to the new middle school faces west. It will not have any streets running past it. Perhaps this is for security reasons? I would guess that another reason might be ease of getting kids in and out of the building without disrupting traffic on the streets?

When visiting the Central Middle School site, Tuesday, July 24, 2007, I found that Seventh Street has been reopened.

This view is looking to the East to Seventh and Pearl and the new building. A new sidewalk and what may be parking and/or Bus lanes are being built.

Note the posts along the new sidewalk. Could this be hitching posts? Perhaps they will have electrical outlets for the electric cars of tomorrow!

This view is looking south from along Seventh Street and shows the difference in the grade of the new sidewalk and the height of the lawn of the old CHS.

It's so sad that such a lovely old building was destroyed. It stood with grace and dignity for so many years. I attended years ago and would always drive by when I returned to Columbus. The building and grounds possessed such a wonderful feeling of serenity. What a big loss for Columbus and it's citizens. A hundred years from now I doubt that anyone will say such nice things about the generic cookie cutter building that replaces it. Though I will probably never return to Columbus it saddens me to know that it is NO MORE!

I made a visit to the site of the old Columbus High School last Friday afternoon. The view below is from a little east of Sycamore and Seventh Streets. You are looking toward the southwest and if you look closely, you’ll see the goal posts on the new Central Middle School football field.

Behind The Scenes Old Columbus High School (CHS) Year 1943Mr. Morris Repaired Wooden/Iron School DesksA remarkable talented generation of people maintained school property and the buildings of the past. They seemed to be able to repair and fix just about anything in those days of the past. Today many buy these school desks in antique stores.Source: Within the CHS Log of 1943

The new football and track field, at the site of the old seventh street Columbus High School. I don’t see any fan bleachers. Could this pad be the planed location for bleachers?
